Iran president would welcome direct talks with US

news.yahoo.com

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's hardline president said Monday he would welcome direct talks with the U.S. if both parties are on equal footing, adding such talks could happen "in the near future."

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not say whether any definite plans for such bilateral talks were under way.

political double speak, hes trying to sound like he wants to negotiate when he really doesn't.

Iranian prez wants nukes no matter what the cost.

Bad move,

Saddam asked for the EXACT same thing, direct dialouge on a public network to resolve the issues.

And look what happened there, we branded him a lunatic and ignored his request.

Why?

Because in a face to face confrontation on air between Saddam and the US, the US would of been proved a liar and a monger. It would of shown we wanted war no matter what the reality in Iraq.

Its not entirely the same with Ahmadinejad, but it still stands.

If we talk to him on air, we will be shown to be the weaker side in the argument.
Because you know immediately, he will say something along the lines of

- Israel's nuclear weapons
- Israel's assistance of terrorism
- Iraq invasion lies
- Bush lies

and that will NOT sit well with an already critical populace.

Why should Ahmadinejad negotiate?
His country is scientifically researched something other nations are allowed to. He's not attacking anyone, in a day and age where global warming is happening, isnt it wiser to shift to nuclear energy than oil?

True, he is probably building the materials for a bomb, but so are other nations without approval.

The basis for us even having an argument AGAINST iran is void. And its starting to get scary.. because times running out for this fascist US government to implement its way.

they ha ve never been offered direct talks with the USA - and if you read the wording of the `deal` offered then you would reject it - give up everything and we will give you a trickle of fuel each year.
