British trio admits plan to blow up planes

uk.news.yahoo.com

LONDON (AFP) - Three British men accused of plotting suicide attacks on transatlantic flights on Monday pleaded guilty to conspiring to cause explosions.

The pleas of Abdulla Ahmed Ali, 27, Assad Sarwar, 28, and Tanvir Hussain, 27, came as their trial at Woolwich Crown Court in south-east London was drawing to a close.

No, they admitted to conspiring to cause explosion and to causing a public nuisance by making videos threatening bombings. They say they wanted to create a video to highlight the British foreign policy in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon and set off explosives near the Houses of Parliament and in an airport terminal building. The prosecution is taking the stance that they were going to blow up a transatlantic flight full of passengers and kill innocent people.

I'm not justifying what they did (or were going to do). I'm just pointing out that they've admitted to a lesser charge. And that admitting to causing explosions is not admitting to blowing up a plane as the post title suggests.

There's some more info about what they are claiming here and here.

And a very believable claim it is too.

"No, yer honour, we were only gonna blow th' plain up, see? We dinnt want to actually kill anyone, innit? Its, like, a statement, or somefink, right?"
