I think I witnessed an Aurora fly over.

I was at my in-laws' house a couple of weeks ago for a party in their back yard. I was sitting on the grass watching my nieces and nephew play and I looked up and saw a strange contrail/exhaust trail.

It was the classic "doughnuts-on-a-rope" that is associated with the Aurora and other supposed hypersonic aircraft using PDE engines. I did not hear the "ripping" sound that normally goes along with these sightings, but it was the first time I've ever seen that kind of contrail/exhaust trail.

Anyways, I just wanted to share this with you. I wish I had had a camera with me at the time.

"Donuts on a rope" contrails do not neccesarily indicate a PDE powered aircraft.
There are atmospheric anomalies that can cause a similar appearance.
Did you hear a massive sonic boom perhaps?

I don't doubt you, but we have a saying on the sportbike forum that I frequent: TPIWWOP - this post is worthless without pics.

Oh - what part of the World were you in?

Utah.

I wish I had had my camera with me so I could post pics. I need to start keeping it in the car so I can grab it when weird things happen.
