Oh yes, another thing -- When the interview with the author of Above Black comes on, he has some information regarding this. It can be found in the book, but I'm gonna spoil this part atleast:

- Noise Cancellation Technology

This works on the principle of negative phase theory. If you analyze the frequency of a noise you want to eliminate, determine its discreet phase angels at a very high data rate, you can generate an identical frequency calculated to be 180 degrees out of phase with the original frequency. If you mix the two frequencies together in a process called "heterodyning" you get 180 - 180 = 0. Again, if taken to the extreme this technology can go beyond the original uses of simply cancelling out unwanted noise. Light is also made up of electromagnetic energy and has a frequency. What if a person could control the cancellation of light at will? Think of the implications if a country had full use of this ability?

Tell me thats not the shizzznizzit.

Cancelling out electromagnetic waves in the visual spectrum is easy! It's called matt black paint.

On a serious note, the cancellation of EM waves would give you a few important technologies:

1. Defense against any active search/tracking/targetting technologies, eg radar, laser range finding etc.

2. Defense against many kinds of Directed Energy Weapons - lasers, microwaves etc.

3. Effective heat shielding technology, effective radiation shielding technology - except for the concussive force, stand next to a nuclear weapon going off.

If anybody's read any of Jerry Pournelle's Empire / CoDominium novels, think Langston field. The implications of EM wave control... very far reaching. However, you have deal with issues like polarity, Heisenberg uncertainty... light "waves" also behave like particles, in discrete packets. So, this sort of technology is a bit more complex, but has further reaching implications than I want to go into in this post!!
