I believe this took place in the early days of radio... anyway, there was a story I remember reading that talked about a signal that was recieved from Mars (when it was close)... on radio, it was nothing, but it wasn't until they did something (don't remember what), that an image of a face appeared.

Come to think of it, wasn't there reports of a beacon signal coming from somewhere nearby (outer space), which the "experts" back then honestly believed was an alien probe?

All these half-remembered stories from books long forgotten... I'm only 31, yet I already feel old!

soothsayer... that's really interesting. hopefully someone can follow those up.
