Hey all...

Just a fun thread - How many ATS/BTS members are musically talented?

I thought it would be cool to get to know your fellow ATS'sers in terms of their musical talents.

Post whether you play music (YES on an instrument), compose or sing. I don't want to now what instruments you own etc etc etc - that's irrelevant!

All i want to know is:
1. Do you sing?
2. Do you write music?
3. Do you write songs?
4. Do you play an instrument?
5. Combination? (State which combination)

I think it is interesting. This is NOT to find out who is better that who but just to get to know our "friends" better.

I Play guitar AND i sing.

However, I can't write songs - well not really. When i do they sound SO amateur LMAO... so i never write to sing them to anyone!!

So my answer is 5 combination of 1 and 4.

I can play harmonica, and used to play a mean sax (but had to sell it). I have no idea if I can sing, because the only ones I've ever gotten opinions from are friends and family, and they'll never say "you suck". And people who CAN'T sing are always convinced they can... which is terribly unfortunate.

My main talent is in arrangements, corrections, and mixing. I can hear a song, analyze it beat by beat, measure to measure, and figure out how to improve the...well... the "flow" of the thing, is the only word I can think of. I'm not sure why or how, it's just one of those things I've always had an ear for.

Some of my favorite works were international collaborations stemming from Africa (Afro-Celt Sound System, Juno Reactor, and most of Real World Music's works), so I'd love to hear what you can do, Shearder.

Iv'e been a semi pro musician for 20 years.
I play guitar, Upright bass, bass guitar, sax, flute, dobro and harmonica.
Currently I am a sideman [standup bass] in three outfits. Django jazz, Rockabilly and C&W.
I mainly play in beerjoints and bars, some small festivals, coffeehouses and private parties here in NM, Colo, and Texas.

This is me on bass backing up a local Country and Western/folk artist.

I write songs and have done some studio work for PBS.
I have never made any real money playing music. I just love to perform
and hang out with other musicians.

Well that's a big OR question, isn't it? I'm a musician, or at least I WAS for about 15 years or so before I gave it up. I am NOT musically talented, which is part of why I gave it up. (Yeah, call me slow for it to take me 15 years to realize I wasn't going to get any better...)

Vocals, keyboards, bass, guitar and other toys.

I play guitar and sing...been doing it for about 14 years now. I write and record my own music as well, and have a myspace page...not sure what the rules are on posting there here, though. I might even have it in my signature...this is my first post here in a LONG time. lol anyway, if it's not in my sig, just U2U me and I can send you links to some of my music.

Nice thread.

I've been playing drums for about 9 years and guitar for about 7.
I'm a qualified sound engineer and have written, performed, produced and engineered my own music. I've played many gigs in pubs, bars etc.. and recorded in some pretty high-class studios.

Recently I've been writing a little more on my own and trying to learn to sing well (not there yet though).

Oh, yea and when I was younger I learned piano but I'm not sure how much I would remember these days..

Have a look around for mt Pods and have a listen.

MAN whaaa!! That's so cool. When i was in the US, i played there for a year, it was DAMN fine!! Played like 3 times a week. Played more blues, classic rock etc. It was so cool i would do it again tomorrow - IF i wasn't married and now back in South Africa. Music here is dead in terms of those Genres!! There are VERY few joints that offer blues even.

Man, i miss my band days!!

I sing (not sure how well, but people keep allowing me to sing), I write music and lyrics, people who have heard them consider them pretty good, at least for my age, been playing bass guitar since I was about 10, I cant drum, but I can program a drum machine, I dont know the technical aspects or theory to standard guitar, but I can still play slightly, enough to impress people, no where near as good as my bass skills, so i just stick to that instrument. I have a little, and by little, I mean about a year of training in recording and mixing, so I know how to, and have mixed and recorded a few things, nothing impressive, but good enough for demos and what not, currently I am in 3 bands, I play bass in all, sing lead in one, backup in another.

LOL - yeah 15 years is a while to realise that. But hey, you must be able to do "ok" to continue for that amount of time? Right?

That is cool!! I loved playing in the band. It's soul food for sure!! Being on stage is like a comfort zone LOL

I loved it and didn't really get nervous! It just felt "right"

I have been playing for around 19 years and singing for about 33 years. I am not that old but i started singing when i was about 5 years old and the bug bit. Considering my Dad played guitar for me when i was a brick and a penny high and i guess that's what spurred me on to learn to play. Which it had been sooner though!!

To be honest, i have been playing guitar for a LONG while and i still don't know all the necessary theory. BUT, as far as i am concerned, i can play by ear and i can get on stage and if i know the key i can get into it in a short time and lay like it was my 5th time LOL - I had to do that when i went to the US from South Africa and was asked to join a band and i didn't know the music.

I wish i had the time to dedicate to one band and you are in 3!! GREAT going
You are really multi talented. I am in awe of some who have posted!! I believe music is what has kept me going under many circumstances in my life!!

If ATS/BTS formed a band what kinda music would it play ?

Would they accept Aliens ?

How long would it take the band to break up ?

Would it be because they were thinking that the other members were conspiring against them ?

After the first album was release would they play it backwards ?

:w:

What would we call the band?

Eclectic 12?

LOL assuming we could get that many members. And we would have to have a photographer at the gigs and all the pictures need to be blurry. And a videographer WITHOUT a tripod!! So it looks like we are all dancing on stage even if we are standing dead still!! The two could walk around with a car door and shoot from behind it?

hmmmmmmm....

also gives "The Shadows" a new meaning LMAO
