Old thread, but just watched this documentary on cable last night. Pretty shocking, to say the least.
The geist is, the Soviets and Nazis (Stalin) collaborated on dividing Europe, and who to kill off in mass scale. The Nazis wanted to kill off the
Jews (still not sure why), and the Soviets wanted to kill off those in the wrong social class (political reasons). In 1939 when Poland was invaded by
Nazis, Poland fought them successfully until the Soviets joined the fight against Poland, and the Nazis and Soviet partners divided the spoils.
Stalin's plan was to partner with the Nazis and supply them with resources and bases, such as what they did when Germany used a Soviet naval base to
attack Norway. The Nazis got greedy and low on resources, and invaded the Soviet side, and the Soviets then turned on the Nazis. Waves of Soviet
soldiers followed by a wave of an NKVD army shooting at anyone who retreated.
After the war, the Nazi concentration camps on the east continued operation under the Soviets and the atrocities continued with a total of 20 Million
people killed by the Soviets alone.
I thought this was very interesting. The Nazis and Soviets were both Socialist but with a populist Despot in control they were Fascists.
