Hey everyone on ATS

I've noticed quite a few posters on here seem to have some sort of military background - from all walks of life and nationalities.

I'm very curious to hear what experience people have, and where they've been / done.

I'll obviously start.

Joined the Australian Army in 98 - Signals Corps.
2000 - Posted to 4RAR (Commando) - trained in all facets of unconventional warfare.
Spent 6 months peacekeeping in East Timor (UN) - plus a few other stints which I won't get into at this point.

Would be interested to hear what other people have done - and if anyone has any questions, I'd be happy to answer (to the extent I can).

Cheers

Nice job, serving the country.

I'd like to know what is there in the Signals Corps, or rather, what is it really like doing stuff in there.

Cheers

I served in the USMC from 1967-1971.

I was trained as a Field Artillery Batteryman [FABtryman).

I worked with classified documents for a while.

Studied Vietnamese before going to Vietnam.

Served as a FABtryman in Vietnam from Aug. 68 to Feb. 69 on 155mm howitzers M-109SP and 4.2 in. mortars (base-plates).

Was wounded in action on 23 February 1969.

I spent the remaining two years recovering from my wounds and shuffling papers.

Nothing to shout about really, but my time in was intense at times, boring and tedious at times, but generally, interesting and challenging.

No military experience here. But you all did a great thing serving your country, I have great respect for anyone who is or has been in the military. As I said in my first thread, my grandfather was Special Forces in Vietnam and he was truly a great man.

I applaud all of your courage.

Ex-reserved armed forces here.

Infantry.

Was going for a specialist selection course and snapped my pelvis, so all that got canned at the tender age of 23.

Life sucks but you have to get on with it - I went into health care, met a beautiful woman, got married and have a sweety pie baby girl now...

So I guess what sucked at the time turned me to a path I would never of trodden upon.

Greets to all who have served or are serving.

There is quite a few of us serving and ex military guys and gals on here at ATS. I personally served with UK Armed Forces although i wouldnt go as far to say which exact unit(s) or places i served in. Thats my paranoid nature only though. I believe we have many members from almost every aspect of the military on ATS which is bloody excellent especially when a topic needs a little expert knowledge.

cool i figured there had to be another scout or two running around here.

best day for me was watching rangers jump from c-130's while we were recapturing a airport. it was right at twilight. and all i could see were black dots in the light from machine gun fire...

Dan,

Thanks,I got your U2U but do not have enough privileges to reply yet. I always love to hear from the Brits. I served with some of your finest at the start of the last invasion of Iraq. We were at a camp in Jordan, and I helped supply some of the cover while they took H2 airbase on the Haifa pipe line. They are great group of guys that I enjoyed to be around. I always knew the Brits were a tough bunch, You name your battleships after your mother inlaws "HMS Battle Axe"

Take care,
