I'm also very skeptical, but from a different perspective. I've been involved with many fraternal orders since my college days, and learned very
quickly that many of the "sacred legends" and "mysteries" pertaining thereto have to be taken with a grain of salt.
As far as the Bonesman's skull goes, why would the guy lie? The Bones group want people to believe they have Geronimo's skull; they themselves are
the ones who perpetuated the story to begin with. This kind of thing lends them an aura of mystery, which fraternal orders are based upon. It would be
far less romantic and intriguing to admit it was actually stolen from class by a group of candidates.
Not saying every member of the Masons knows what's going on or is evil (esp. since I think the Masonry is a recruiting ground). But S&B is in
to some serious power-tripping. And not nearly as innocent as they seem.
Masonry, instead of being some sort of "recruiting ground", is a fraternal organization descended from the stonemasons guild in England in the
middle ages. Like the Bones frat, we also have our legends, most notably that Masonry began in ancient Israel, with King Solomon being the first Grand
Master. But, as mentioned above, such legends shouldn't be taken too seriously.
As for "what is going on", I'd be willing to wager that all active Masons are very aware of what goes on in Masonry. I cannot speak for Skull and
Bones as I am not a member, but I was in a similar frat in college. Methinks the Bonesmen probably were more interested in beer bashes and panty raids
than world domination.
