From what I found out about this knife, it's not for sale yet, but what it does is freeze tissue/organs while injecting compressed CO2 into the victim (human or other) after the knife has been plunged into the body.

WASP Injector Knife Inflates Sharks

This weapon injects a frozen ball of compressed gas approximately the size of a basketball at 850psi nearly instantly. The effects of this injection will drop many of the world's largest land predators. The effects of the compressed gas not only cause over-inflation during ascent when used underwater, but also freezes all tissues and organs surrounding the point of injection on land or at sea. When used underwater, the injected gas carries the predator to the surface BEFORE blood is released into the water. Thus giving the diver added protection by diverting other potential predators to the surface.

That site was saying it's for sale as a scuba diving defensive weapon, but on the "WASP" website, they are also marketing it to the military!

WASP Injection Knife, Military and Tactical

"The WASP Knife - Soon coming for home defense & recreational use"

Introducing the WASP Injection Knife. A multi-shot gas injection weapon that is devistating to any living creature and will drop some of the largest mammals in a single stab. This easy-to-use, easy-to-reload weapon delivers up to a 24g shot of compressed gas at 800 psi. on land or underwater. It is silent when used and deadly to our enemies. No need to take a chance that the enemy can come back to attack you.

The WASP is ideally suited for:

* Special Ops Troops (Land or Sea)
* Downed Pilots Stranded In Open Water
or Remote Forests
* Military Survival Kits
* S.W.A.T. and Special Police
* Security Guards

The WASP - Give Our Troops the Edge!

This thing is LETHAL!

A High Tech Makeover For the Common Knife!

This remarkable knife makes a gut wound instantly fatal! Just ram it in, up to the shank, and this cutie instantly releases a basketball sized gas bubble!

While it’s now a military weapon, it’s only a matter of time before the WASP knife is available for home protection and recreational use.

I don't know about anybody else, but this, at least to me, sounds like it should be one of those weapons that should be banned from being used anywhere!

I couldn't imagine having a basketball size bubble of air injected in my body while the gas freezes all the tissue and organs it comes into contact with while I was still alive.

Sounds like an horrific weapon to me!

Yes and from your own post, for sale to the military for use in the water. So by your logic regular civilian scuba divers should be able to use this weapon against sharks, but navy seal divers should not be able to use it against sharks?

It's not like they are going to use it on people.

Thats some scary thoughts having something like that just anywhere. I'm surprised they haven't put something like that into bullet form.

I think you MIGHT have missed this quote!

WASP Injection Knife, Military and Tactical

They are not talking about animals being our enemies here!

How is this any worse than being killed by a regular knife? or worse than being killed by guns, crossbows, baseball bats, lead pipes, venomous snakes released into your sleeping bag, being garroted with piano wire, being buried alive, dropped off a building, poisoned with russian plutonium, pushed into the raptor paddock, flushed out an airlock, or anything else that kills you for that matter?

Ever heard of a Farallon Shark Dart?

blog.wired.com...

As used by US Navy SEALs in the 1970's, it's a dagger that injects CO2 into a shark...I think a patent infringement suit is due...

So it's silent but deadly? Are we sure that it's Co2 which is being dispensed?

I do believe Patents are only good for 20 years.

Intellectual Property - Patent Law - Patent Basics

How long does a patent last?

Under recent changes in the laws, in the United States patents are now granted for a term of 20 years from the date of application (14 years for design patents). Different rules apply for patents covered by applications filed before June 8, 1995. Patents may be extended only by a special act of Congress (except for certain pharmaceutical patents).

So, even if they got that patent in 1979, it would only be good 'til 1999.

Well, if someone stabs you with a knife, as long as you get to the hospital you have a good chance of surviving. If I'm reading the article right, this knife makes you blow up like a balloon and pop as soon as it pierces your flesh. No surviving that.

And don't forget that the gas is freezing all the tissue and organs it is coming into contact with!

I'm not sure which would kill you first, the compressed air injected into your body, or the freezing effects on your tissues and organs!

Possibly the second most stupid weapon ever made! After the gyrojet pistol.

Why in hell would you fire the blade of your knife, which is your weapon of last resort?

I you miss, you are unarmed and I assume you die. Or you could have just moved in and done the wetwork.

A more sane approach would be to mount 4 spike projectiles in the handle.
You would get 4 shots, and if any struck, then you have a now crippled if not dieing opponent to swing the odds in your favor.

You didn't read the article. It doesn't fire the blade, the blade "injects" a basketball sized bubble of C02 into the attacker.

One thing I'm unsure about. If you didn't push the knife all the way in ( or if you did for that matter ) what's to stop the compressed air "firing" the knife out of the body and smacking you the face ? I can't believe the directional jet would be sufficient enough to prevent this, It really needs some type of barb at the tip.

Although I do think this is a waste of money and is kinda dumb as far as killing people goes. A proper strike with a knife to the right spot on a body will kill instantly as well. I also wonder how much noise it might cause to "inflate" a person. plus the mess. But as far as using it on sharks under water - sounds like a smart thing. Using it on another diver would blow your cover since he would float up.

But Cyberian - it doesn't fire, it injects after the knife strikes the target.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here, but if you mean throwing the knife and missing; no, you're not unarmed. SEALs aren't dumb enough to go on a mission armed with nothing but an injector knife. This isn't Rhambo.

Yup, your invention has just topped all. Mount 4 spike projectiles in the handle (???). Exactly 4 shots. So we use a knife to shoot spikes....ever heard of guns? It's what people use to shoot, not knives. Pistols mate - up to 20 BULLETS and maybe a silencer + much longer range then some spike knife would have. Nice diplay of creativity after labeling a deadly weapon "Possibly the second most stupid weapon ever made!"

Maestro

Actually, similar technology has been around for awhile and it's even been tried out on humans.

Peace

This will go well with next Thanksgiving dinner at the in-laws. Volunteer to carve the turkey. Shank the turkey. Yell out, "What did you say about me last year?!"

Where do I get one?

You could make a simple DIY shank version of this that is not push button activated but fires on entry using thin hollow pipe.

In South Africa criminals have been using bicycle spoke shanks instead of knives because of the terrible damage they cause.

Similar concept but add the gas.

Whats the cost comparison/availability of bullets to gas cylinders?

In the Tom Clancy book, Without Remorse the main character Clark creates a similar concept of destruction. Instead of Gas he uses a shotgun shell and small hand held steel pipe with a firing pin or tack inside it. He jammed the pipe upwards under his victims solar plexus, the shot gun shell fired (making little noise because the blast entered the chest cavity) shredding the internal organs.

Shotgun shell shank is probably easier to make.

Yes, you could just shoot them....but this is obviously for a specific job in close.

Already in use around US sub bases
Same technology used on the trained govt. dolphins to kill enemy divers/dolphins
they detect with natural sonar then tag target with dart killing/surfacing them.
