US needs 100 years to recover from Bush

www.news.com.au

IT will take the the United States a century to recover from the damage wreaked by President George W Bush, US writer Gore Vidal said in an interview published today.

"The president behaved like a virtual criminal but we didn't have the courage to sack him for fear of violating the American constitution,'' Mr Vidal told the El Mundo newspaper.

The author, a trenchant critic of the US-led invasion of Iraq, said it would take the United States 100 years to repair the damage caused by Bush.

"We live in a dictatorship. We have a fascist government ...which controls the media,'' he said.

Mr Vidal also said presidential aspirant Barack Obama was ntelligent and that it would be a novelty to have an intelligent person in the White House.

I think that's hilarious. So many critics of Bush are trying to make their struggle seem more epic than it really is. Speaking about having the courage to speak out against an administration that a majority of Americans are speaking out against with no ramifications. There's also this claim that Bush is like the emperor from Star Wars, except that congress still exists, as does the judicial.

An example -- if we were in a dictatorship, Bush would have overruled the Supreme Court's decision that terror suspects have constitutional rights. That didn't happen, instead... terror suspects have constitutional rights now.

My take on it is that people want to feel like what they're struggling against is a lot more dangerous and important than it really is, and so they've convinced themselves of these grandiose fabrications so that they can be heroes in their own eyes.

While some of the turmoil our country has been through lately seems to extend from Bush...it is not so much as the uneducated seem to think it is. I mean my God..there are people who still swear Bush controls the weather (i.e Katrina), or that Bush has magical powers of mind control.

One example of the governments failings ( not some president- he is mostly a figure head people!) is that we could drill for oil off our own shores; yet people like Kennedy don't want that "in his backyard", the people in Florida don't want to "muddy the waters" of their pristine beaches- yet there is TONS of oil to be had from there. The people who are failing here is US, for allowing rich politicians (LOCAL ONES PEOPLE) to keep us down in order to save their vineyards and yachting grounds.

On another note...this person and so many others must not read history- take a look at what Buchanan did, many presidents have made many mistakes- they are human ya know. Also, the president does not have as much power as so many make it out for them to have, the power is in the Senate and local government...unless you WANT a Totalitarian government where the head of the nation does have that kind of power...vote for Obama if that is your taste.

Bush derangement syndrome is a powerful thing. Makes people say stupid things.

Right after Jimmy Carter, we got Ronald Reagan.

People will fix things when they are broke. If people think things are broken with Bush, we may end up with Obama.

But it is going to take another Ronald Reagan to fix the utter disaster that will be Barack Hussein Obama.
