Mother arrested in death of Nova Scotia girl

The mother of Karissa Boudreau, a 12-year-old girl whose body was found near Bridgewater, N.S., last February, has been charged with first-degree murder in her daughter's death, police said Saturday.

Police in Nova Scotia arrested Penny Boudreau, 33, on Friday.

At a news conference by the RCMP and Bridgewater police on Saturday, investigators provided a brief statement and would only say they do not expect to lay any other charges.

I can't believe the mother did it. Of course, not proven yet but the police seem pretty sure it is her. I remember when this happened. The mom did a good acting job on camera making a plea for Karissa's safe return. I never saw this coming.

I can't imagine what's going through everyone's minds in that small town tonight.

Around the area, people were extremely suspicious that the mother had something to do with her daughter's death when she was arrested, but I don't think anybody thought she took her out that night and strangled her face to face. She told an undercover cop everything. Apparently the little gir's last words were "Mommy, dont!". thechronicleherald.ca...

I can't believe that parents would kill their children. It used to be that parents would die for their kids and protect them at all cost. But now days it's just a burden on them. It's really sad to hear this and to think about what went through the 12 year olds mind and the mother. Parents killing their own kids. To me they are not parents and should of never been a parent. Just really sad.

I think everybody was hoping it was some sort of horrible accident, but the truth was more horrifying than anybody imagined.

Yep, pretty sad. And all because the boyfriend says either he goes or the daughter goes. What was going through the mother's mind? She should have killed the boyfriend.
