How do you think the new lead singer of Journey, Arnel Pineda, sounds?

This is the first time I've heard the guy sing. A lot of the write-up said he sounds exactly like Steve Perry, but I think Steve Augeri, the second lead singer, sounded a lot more like Perry than Pineda.

He's not bad, but he is Phillipino and there's a noticeable accent there. What do you guys think?



BTW, the band discovered this guy on YouTube and Neal Schon can still rip on a guitar.

I liked their performance on 'Ellen' (via cable of course) for the first time. I think Arnel Pineda sounds as good to Steve Perry, even though I don't really hear his Filipino accent. Plus, he's cute. He!

Okay, how come nobody complains about Arnold Schwarzenegger's super-thick accent even when he plays a supposedly all-American action hero (e.g. Harry Tasker in True Lies)?

It's things like these (where it seems an accent from a white guy is never mentioned but is negatively commented on if it's from a non-white person) that race is still a big factor in our society albeit perhaps at a subconscious level.

The guy is an extremely talented singer. Accent or no accent.
