After I saw the article (I refuse to see the video because I will be sick if I do) I was heartbroken and all I could think about all night long was this poor little thing being tossed over a cliff. It kept bothering me even when I put my head on my pillow last night. As the owner of 2 wonderful 'best friends' I am heartsick over this.

What the Marines need to do in addition to getting rid of the scumbag is to request that he undergo deep, intensive psychotherapy. I don't know how old this creep is but he must have tortured animals as a kid and must now enjoy killing people. This is typical serial murderer behavior. If he refuses and does not comply, he should be .....

Have you ever been to Iraq? I bet not, this video is NOTHING compared to the things I've seen done to dogs out there. These dogs are everywhere, and quite the problem. Hell, I remember being in a convoy and every motor t driver swerving to hit the dogs. You get bored, you go crazy, you kill a dog, whoopty doo. Yes, what he did, whether the dog was already dead or not was wrong, but you can't understand where this Marines head was most likely when doing this. Just leave it be, no sence in getting so worked up over something so stupid.

Let me leave you with this: If a full grown dog, say a Pitbull attacks and kills a small child, what would you have done to the dog? Let it be free so it can possibly do it again, keep it in a cage for the rest of its life or put it down? Reverse the situation and think about that.

It's just a god damn dog. Dogs are nothing special, just a giant rat type figure that westerners have taking a liking to. Who cares if somebody kills a dog. Its not a person or anything. I worked on a farm and have seen puppies disposed of. Usually the puppies are tossed in a sack and then thrown in a river or lake. No big deal.

Where is the outrage toward people that hunt or eat meat?

Look I know that you probably saw atrocities that are beyond the scope that many of us can comprehend. Believe me, I feel for you. Must have been painful and I'm sorry about that. But here's just my opinion on this:

This was not an animal that did anything to anyone. It was a PUPPY. Looked to be about 3 to 4 weeks old. Didn't hurt anyone. Never had a chance to live.

What does work me up just as much is your suggestion that they should have punted it because it would have been funnier! I guess I don't understand people like you that think like that. All I can think is that you must be deeply disturbed.

As far as your last comment about a dog that bites a small child. I believe that dog should have been shot on the spot. He should not be allowed to live because he has proven himself to be a danger will definitely do it again. No dog is above a human being but that doesn't mean that we should treat them mean. Abuse of animals does lead to dogs biting people by the way.

I am disturbed. DEEPLY disturbed. Well, it's more my sence of humor is WAY out there, really sick. But you know, we can't all be perfect like you.

It's an animal, it lives off of basic instincts, it's thought patterns are no where near what a humans is. Dogs are just animals, get over yourself, go cry....whatever. I read a few posts in this thread and it's very bipolar. I'll attempt to inject some sanity into the discussion:

1) People need to realise that dog populations have always been controled by humans since the wolf let itself be domesticated. This has been favourable to the dog, and to the human, it's a symbiotic relationship that works ok at the species level, but at the individual level some dogs get a bad break, as do some people that get mauled and killed by dogs. The exceptions do not make the rule but are part of the reality, and this was an extreme case of intentional cruelty, however it's not the end of the world.

2) The guy has been the recipient of so much bad press over this I think it is time to leave him alone. If we were to give the death penalty to everyone that has participated in a medium sized mammals death we would be all but dead. People need to realise that pigs, for example, have more or less the same brainpower and emotional makeup of a dog. Just because there's the "look at the pretty puppy" factor does not mean the situation is worse than it is. It's just a lapse of judgement from someone who spent the bigger portion of his short adult life being trained to kill. Everyone is responsible for this sort of crap when they "support the troops". Jesus people, what do you think troops are? You mess him up psychologically so you can use him to kill people then are surprised he kills a dog? If that was the only being he killed he's probably better than the majority of people in that hellhole that has been created in the middle east by US blunder. Or maybe he's a sociopath, in which case the army has poor screening. Either way it's an institutional issue and he should not be judged in the public eye.

3) Pretty much all municipalities have dog pounds and exterminate dogs and cats regularly. Want to do right to animals? Solve this problem at home first, it kills far more animals than the army.

Yes, it was a sad event, and yes, the guy is a total douche. But it's done and over with, it's had more than enough negative feedback, and at the end of the day it pales into insignificance compared with what people do to each other daily. Dogs still love man, and they have better judgement of us than we have of ourselves.

He simply just did it to torture it. A kill for the sake of killing, and the bastard even took a liking to it.

Now I agree that compared to hunting this is nothing and there needs to be shed more light on those sporting ignorants that kill animals because it makes them feel like a man, or "it's sport".

You said "it's not a human", but neither are hunters or that soldier for that matter. Once you start killing for fun you reduce yourself below that of an animal. You become scum... most animals don't even kill for fun. In fact I can't remember if any animal at all kills for fun.

Why should we not care for animals? We have the brain and self awareness to avoid situations with animals that could be potentially dangerous, so no excuse there either.

That guy must have so little joy in his life. So little imagination to do that to a defenseless animal and so does the other loser soldiers who do this but haven't been filmed, the loser common guy in smallville who kicks his animal because he doesn't have the cells that enables him to understand how to communicate properly to an animal (in this case a dog, since they are the most responsive to communication, next to pigs).

What harm does it to you or them to treat an animal with dignity? What does it take out of your day to treat an animal right? Does it demand too much attention from you? It's it too hard?
I mean offense... just asking, cause seriously, I don't get it...

The puppy wasn't dead if it's the video i looked at. The puppy yelped, cried and screamed as it was killed. That to me is showing someone utterly lacking in empathy. Could you kill a puppy, merely for entertainment? When there is no reason to kill it? Absolutely no reason to kill this dog other than that it entertained them.

I should point out that serial killers have killed animals because it entertained them.
