Great topic. One of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors. I have been re-reading QP lately and got the idea to start an ATS thread where members could attempt the "exercizes" at the end of each chapter in the book. Only after I tried to post it did I realize that there was already a "Quantum Psychology" thread. Well, great minds think alike, right?

But since I'm proposing something more than a general discussion of the book - more like an active discussion/debate group working around the exercises - I suppose there's 'nuff room in this town for the both of us.

Quantum Psychology Book Club

I thought this thread would be about the mind as a quantum computer and what this potentially means to the psychology of the individual. Could you please clarify how this use of language has anything to do with the quantum, rather than a mere semantic description of an ideal system of communication.

My conclusion all along, and my theory of life, is that everyones reality is different. We are all wired differently. We come to our conclusions based on experience. Two people can experience the same physical experience and come to a totally opposite conclusion. In the end it reality is all relative.

Man, when you drop "is of identity", you just abolish the notion of stipulating "compares to" in a tighter boundary...How is that new? Why do you need a new language for this?? There is only one language- it's communication. You don't need to reinvent what already has been offered within human capabilities. The introduction read "the author mistakes himself for the reader" which is absolutely the source of misunderstandings. The general population simply has to become aware of these linguistic tweaks.

The subject of general semantics is but one of numerous within Quantum Psychology, though general semantics has received more focus in this thread because the free excerpt I posted from Wilson's website just happened to be the chapter on e-prime. The one may not make complete sense to you without the others, if it ever makes sense at all.

To further facilitate your understanding I was about to post the entire work in portable document format (PDF), but by chance clicked on the link of the same name in the good bsbray11's signature (above) and found the title removed from scribd.com at the request of the Robert Anton Wilson Estate, so I'd better not. If you're interested enough, you can still find it out there, somewhere, without having to buy it.

Wow, thanks for bringing that to my attention.

With all due respect, the RAW Estate is not RAW himself. I can't imagine the man would be opposed to free expression of his ideas, and if he would be, well, he's open-minded enough to find a way to console himself, I'm sure.

I'm going to see if I can't find another version and replace the link in my signature, so hopefully by the time someone reads this it will work again.. Fingers crossed, lol.



Edit: Quantum Psychology is now working again in my signature and Prometheus Rising will also be working again shortly. They're hosted on ATS for the moment being. If/when they go down again, I'll just move them somewhere else.

Toward the very end of his life Wilson was in financial difficulty and was unable to pay some of his medical bills for Post-polio syndrome without the generous donations of his readers. His books just weren't making enough any more to cover them. So I can understand where his estate is coming from by requesting the removal of his works, even though Wilson is now late.

However! And, my good man, how there had damn well ought to be a "however!" General Wilson's last message to us all (5 days before his death) reads exactly as follows:

DO NOT GO GENTLY INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT

Various medical authorities swarm in and out of here predicting I have between two days and two months to live. I think they are guessing. I remain cheerful and unimpressed. I look forward without dogmatic optimism but without dread. I love you all and I deeply implore you to keep the lasagna flying.

Please pardon my levity, I don't see how to take death seriously. It seems absurd.

“To keep the lasagna flying.” Deeply implored. And what better tools to assist in that are there than Prometheus Rising and Quantum Psychology? I may petition his estate for leniency in the free distribution of these two titles alone, due to the importance of what is written inside them, and the beneficial results arising from their reading, upon the reader, and, subsequently, upon our entire species as a whole (eventually).
