Condoms don't protect against genital herpes. At least, not very much. Herpes sores don't just appear on the penis, and transmission of genital herpes often occurs when there are no sores.

Using a condom dramatically cuts the risk of the herpes virus infecting the genitals, of course people should stay away from other acts, oral sex or manual stimulation with the fingers are all dangerous and out of the question with an infected person.

You can seriously reduce your risks following those guidelines but i agree when it comes to herpes even these measures aren't fool proof.

So how would everyone feel about mandatory periodic testing? It certainly would remove "accidental" spreading of diseases.

I dont think it would. Uninfected people would still knowingly have sex with infected people thinking "I wont get it," people would still lie about being infected, or neglect to mention it. (unless we made them wear a scarlet "H") People with the cold sore version would still kiss their children when they were asymptomatic but shedding virus. (Or have oral sex and potentially spread the herpes simplex 1 to their partners mouth/genitals)

Yeah, but none of that is the accidental spread I was talking about, except for the mother and kids. People lie about having a disease today or just neglect to tell people. This guy is going to trial for allegedly murdering two women by infecting them with HIV.

Clearly communicable disease just isn't an issue that worries most people or else testing would be mandatory and a quarantine process would be put into place whether the scarlet H you mentioned or just removal of infected persons from the population. I remember watching a Cuban-made movie in college about HIV+ people in Cuba being rounded up by the police and sent to camps to live out the rest of their lives. Whether it's right or wrong, Cuba definitely does care about disease.

I want to refer everyone to a recent thread by Psychomike about HIV among heterosexuals. Apparently the threat for a pandemic among heterosexuals outside Africa has never existed. www.abovetopsecret.com...

We will probably reach a state where Herpes Simplex II is as common as Herpes Simplex I.

Essentially, anyone who is not immune to HSVI has acquired it at a very early age.

HSVII will spread more slowly because kissing is more common across a larger age range than the kind of activities that lead to HSVII transmission.

I have read however, that HSVI and HSVII outbreaks are occurring in both northern and southern locations and that lab tests are the only way to distinguish the two, so transmission of HSVII might be speeded up by this phenomenon.

Buck Division: Herpes is not just "some sore spots in sensitive areas".
It is the cause of cervical and oral cancers.
When I see the TV ads showing a smiling person happily claiming they have herpes, and their partner, just as happily saying, "And I don't", I could barf.

Why anyone lets any person come near them after being told they have this disease, is a mystery. Do they like to play Russian Roulette?

Maybe new york needs a sex ed lesson.

Marist College has their very own STD, first identified at a local hospital. Can't remember what it is called officially though.

Most people infected with HSV-2 are not aware of their infection.

www.cdc.gov...

Think of how many people today don't have health insurance. And even those that do, may have sporadic and/or minimal coverage.

The problem is probably actually far worse than is reported.

the observation here, is that the rate of infection thus far, if even twenty percent,as well as the particularly suvival matched quailities of the virus, virtually gaurantees an one hundred percent infection rate...
now im no computer modelist, but maybe some friendly hack inthe crew could come up with a projection of when that will be inevitaably reached?

Herpes is... the stupidest Fear a person can ever have.

we have g-d knows how many viruses floating in us that over centuries and millenia etc... we became immune to.

The real issue is, population control and economy... This is why STD's are a big deal... World Health Organization announced just recently that Aids will never be a heterosexual epidemic anywhere but africa too...

www.dailymail.co.uk... 25010/Global-AIDS-epidemic-myth-admit-world-experts.html

Okay here's the Truth: herpes is nothing No one cares anymore about herpes then they would any other chicken pox... we all know 90% of people will either never have a break out or have one one or two times before supressing it.. K

We trip on herpes ONLY because of the STD stigma we are fed... you know lol, what kind of germs you pass from a kiss...OMG, parasites and worms and... it's all disgusting herpes has the std stigma... and whats the fear... You might not get LAID if you tell someone about it...

Be honest, jessica Alba has herpes, do you actually Care if you get herpes to make love to her... what are the odds you'd ever even know you got it? You'd totally do it... don't lie. It's a friggin cold sore on your peter... big deal... The reason anyone would worry is...

The Stigma... so quit tripping and Love, condoms don't stop Herpes and if you really were worried about diseases and anyone else was... you'd worry not about aids and std's... but hepatitis and Mrsa and resostant TB which you cna get in a cab or off a shopping cart... no one has stopped going out in public because of Mrsa which could kill you dead or hep which you don't need to have sex to get...

Propaganda news is what I say... keep them working not *SNIP*

Herpes? lol...

the main cause of cervical cancer is a specific wart virus.. not a herpes virus.

edit. regarding jessica alba.. the rumour started after she apparently had a script filled for anti-viral meds. She might have had genital herpes [as if any of you guys stood a chance anyway] but she's also a multimillion dollar actress who might be trying to avoid getting coldsores when due on set.

I hope she sues her chemist for preach of privacy if thats what happened.

At least we are talking openly about this condition. This is my first tread, and there is a reason that sparked me to comment.
I do have herpes.
I can write many details about how I've learned about it, diagnosed and the info that I was given by my family Dr. in the early 80's.

My question of "HOW AND WHERE DID HERPES VIRUS CAME FROM?" have not been answered as yet. Good that we know - or are told that chicken pox and shingles are also caused by "a relative" virus - or "similar".

The virus can be transferred from the lip area when a blister breaks and touching it with the hand, than touching the genital area. Knowing this more "can of worms" are opened for me. Does that mean that one need not having attracted the virus by performing sex?
Further on, I've had it on the frontal part for about 4 years, than it stopped showing up. When I thought that it's gone (?) - it started to show at the rear. Right open on the surface. It's by no means as uncomfortable as previously.

Eventually I started out to gather more info. It is simply just unfortunate that the medical professionals are only scratching the surface of knowledge with this topic. And I stand with this statement! One can find more info on the net, than from pro's.
I'm not knowledgeable in medicine but looking for answers with open mind.

As I've learned in the resent past that many known "new" viruses are a branch of sort from known virus types. (One advocate of this finding is Dr. Len Horowitz). If it's true that those new virus types were developed in labs and strategically introduced in different societies around the world at different times and for different reasons - I'm about to conclude that the herpes virus may have been one such of introduction. Many lab experimentations may have gone wrong and the results may have accidentally escaped into our lives.

The herpes virus is said to be related to some other viruses as I copy the info that Sparky63 wrote (THANKS!): "Chicken pox and shingles are common afflictions caused by herpes viruses. The one causing genital herpes is similar (at times identical) to the virus causing the ordinary cold sores people get on their lips. But when herpes afflicts the genitals, the sufferer has usually (but not always) contracted the virus in a specific way: by sexual contact with another herpes victim." This is one info that I've also came across from international sources on the net.

At this point I'm sceptical of the origin of the virus. I'm ignorant of the fact, therefore I'm asking my question in such of way: "IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE HERPES VIRUS WAS ALTERED IN A LAB FROM THE TYPE 1 AND ESCAPED OR RELEASED FROM THAT LAB JUST TO FIND IT'S WAY TO THE GENITAL AREA, AND IN MY CASE FURTHER TO THE REAR?" - and we call this type 2?

I'm aware that not all of us may agree about any or all conspiracies, but I want to make it clear that based on all unknown and the questionable areas I offer my question as part of this conversation. And why do society don't know much about this condition? I've experienced through the years that creating havoc in our lives leads to further control. Is this one such of creation? Perhaps by the way of further separation of the partners?

As far as one having this virus and the behavior of one: MARRIED OR NOT, USE PREVENTATIVE METHODS (condom) WHEN HAVING SEX - AND TELL YOUR PARTNER WHAT YOUR HAVE. ALSO TELL YOUR PARTNER WHAT YOU KNOW ABOUT THE POSSIBILITIES OF SPREADING IT! Because there is no known cure for it.

I took it on my self that my live-style includes what I say. To my knowledge I've not infected my formal wife or any other partners after my divorce.

Oh my. Do you have anything to back up your claim that herpes simplex 1 or 2 causes cervical or oral cancer? If so, by all means post a link. I could find nothing at all from any reputable source substantiating the claim that Herpes Simplex 1&2 cause oral or cervical cancers.

It is HPV, (human papilloma virus) that is linked to most cervical cancer as far as I know. This virus is VERY common. Following excerpt from the CDC site;

www.cdc.gov...

HPV infection. Approximately 20 million Americans are currently infected with HPV, and another 6.2 million people become newly infected each year. At least 50% of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives.

There IS some evidence that Herpes Simplex 1 may be linked to alzheimers in individuals who have a specific genetic predisposition.

www.physorg.com/pdf87049745.pdf

The work links a form of the ApoE gene known as ApoE-4, which after advanced age is the leading known risk factor for getting Alzheimer's disease, with the form of herpes – herpes simplex 1 or HSV – that infects
more than 80 percent of Americans and causes cold sores around the mouth. The findings from a group at the University of Rochester Medical Center show that the particular form of the gene that puts people at risk also creates a fertile environment for herpes in the brain, allowing the virus to be more active than other forms of the ApoE gene permit.

But you see that figure? MORE than 80% of Americans are infected with the herpes simplex 1 virus. (Which is also documented as being able to cause herpes sores in the genital area, btw)

Whats the point? Rather than be alarmist and imply that being near people with some form of herpes is russian roulette, perhaps you should really familiarize yourself with some facts. Before admonishing people for associating with people infected with the virus, perhaps you should find out if YOU are one of the infected people. ( many infected people have NO symptoms) If more than 80% of Americans are infected, (with herpes simplex 1) then odds are pretty good that you are one of them. "Chicken pox" is also a form of herpes. Almost everyone has SOME form of herpes. (Chicken pox never completely leaves you, it goes dormant)

Bottom line, of course we should do what we can as individuals to reduce the transmission of this virus. Particularly to children by not kissing them if you have an active cold sore. (Though transmission is also possible without an active sore) We should also use condoms, prudence, etc., to reduce transmission. Treating infected people like lepers is ridiculous, however. Pretending that the cold sore version is so much different than the genital version when the cold sore version CAN cause genital herpes as well is sort of silly as well.

If the quality of your life depends on if a female celibrity has a virus or not I'm not surprised.

this is the 2nd time you've made this joke now. how about you just partake in some actual grownup conversation instead of making it about your ruined sexual fantasies?

Woowww I'm sorry a little joke ruined your day so badly that you had to resort to a personal attack instead of just skipping past it and reporting it to a moderator. Considering I made the posts a day ago and they're still up, I'm guessing it didn't bother them that much.

You want my grown-up opinion on the topic? Here it is. It's rough, you'll hate it, you'll think I'm a monster, but whatever. You asked.

Our society has glorified the sluts. The "cool guy" is the one that bangs the most "chicks," the girl that all the guys like is the one that will sleep with every last one of them.

We put this notion in our movies, on our TV, in our music, on the Internet, and any other medium you can think of. We talk about it at work, school, the bar, and anywhere else. I know you've heard it at work before, "Oh, if you're having a party you've GOT to invite Judy from accounting, she'll give us some entertainment!" or maybe you remember conversations from school like, "Did you hear Mikey got a threesome with those cheerleaders?!"

Bottom line: We tolerate this view, as a whole. As a whole, we perpetuate this stigma that you aren't cool if you aren't disgusting. As a whole, we reap what we sow.

You've got two options: Practice safe sex with monogamous people and take it slow so you know their history, or screw up and bang four women from New York City so you can spend the rest of your life buying expensive cream.

Sure, you can't control everything and nothing's perfectly safe, but when people engage in high risk behavior it's their own fault if they have to feel the burn later. Oops, that was another joke... maybe you're just gonna have to shoot me to shut me up.

Personal attack? I had a go at you as you made the joke TWICE and it's based on sexual objectification. No one laughed the first time.. that and someone had just come forward about their experiences with the virus [denying ignorance] yet you ignored them and had to again joke about it as though having it is something to suicide over. Grow up.

Considering I made the posts a day ago and they're still up, I'm guessing it didn't bother them that much.

I don't care if it bothers the mods.. it bothered me and so I voiced my opinion.

You want my grown-up opinion on the topic? Here it is. It's rough, you'll hate it, you'll think I'm a monster, but whatever. You asked.

Our society has glorified the sluts.

Sometimes.. [though I do not like the word slut] but society also crucifies and disrespects them. Keep in mind that just because a woman's depicted as being highly sexual.. that doesn't mean she's having sex 24/7. Celibrities for the most part are illusions.

The "cool guy" is the one that bangs the most "chicks,"

I'll agree that male promiscuity is worhipped and rewarded.

the girl that all the guys like is the one that will sleep with every last one of them.

I did not know Jessicca alba was promiscuous [not that thats relevent to your reality anyway]. Don't blame society for your own actions.

We put this notion in our movies, on our TV, in our music, on the Internet, and any other medium you can think of. We talk about it at work, school, the bar, and anywhere else. Does that include drink spiking?
No I haven't heared this.. if it is the way you speak and treat women you should be ashamed of yourself.

or maybe you remember conversations from school like, "Did you hear Mikey got a threesome with those cheerleaders?!"

No.. sounds more like a porn movie plot.
My life is not based on fiction and tall stories.. nor would I believe them without question or see sexual exploitation as something to be congratulated.

Bottom line: We tolerate this view, as a whole.

No "we" don't.

As a whole, we perpetuate this stigma that you aren't cool if you aren't disgusting. As a whole, we reap what we sow.

Thats no excuse not to have respect for women on a message board or otherwise. You CHOOSE to let society dictate your behaviour.. now maybe you can choose not to make sexist jokes about movie stars and people with STDs. You said they reap what they sow.. and so have you.

Wow. I get a kick out of how you assume so much. You don't even know me, and you think I'm some sexist evil person. So let me make an assumption: You are one of those ridiculous political correction slingers who thinks everyone that tries to hold people accountable for their own actions is the problem with society. I'm getting a touch of feminazi in there as well: Because I made a sex joke, I therefor am disrespectful to all women? Get real.

Jessica Alba is on the record as saying she's okay with one night stands (You can find the interview if you don't believe me, just do some googling because you aren't worth the effort.) The guy she caught the disease from isn't much better. That type of behavior puts people at high risk for catching and spreading STDs.

So, bottom line: Risky behavior = Their fault.

I already said not everyone who catches it engages in risky behavior, which an intelligent person would realize is also saying that those people aren't to blame for their illness. But your selective reading and your burning desire to hate random people online overrode your reading comprehension and common sense, apparently.

Corollary to bottom line: Not Risky Behavior = Not their fault.

As for sensitivity, you're crying to the wrong person. The Internet's feelings don't mean jack to me. I'll keep it as civil as I'm required but beyond that you'll read exactly what I'm thinking, every time, without mercy or apology. After all, somebody has to make up for the politically correct garbage that's saturated our society.

Oh, by the way, awesome way to pick my post apart line by line, not to refute what I said, but to try and demonize me. You told me earlier to have an adult conversation. If I am to do that, then with whom would I have it?
