Sitting there, writing in my notepad, someone walks up to me from work. Smile man, why do you always looks so angry?!

Well my friend, I was having a perfectly happy evening until you told me I wasn't!!

Why do people have the nerve!!

As Kurt Cobain said, I should just shave off my eye brows..

Why do I look so angry?

It's the way I look!
I just do not go around smiling, if no one makes me!

I have heard over, and over again, "smile" and I always reply, "what for"?

...now, if you get me to giggling, it's hard to get me to stop....hehehe!

I get the "Whats up?" or "Why so sad?" question now and again from people, telling them I'm fine only seems to provoke a micro Spanish Inquisition "Its ok you can tell me?" or "No really whats up?".

I don't walk around with a big fat grin on my face all the time, I am capable of smiling and shockingly even laughing should I be happy, told a humorous joke or even tickled.

"I am capable of smiling ..." Yea. There has to be a good reason though eh?

Just tell them you are trying to choke back the vomit which attempts to erupt in their presence.

Here's my smile:
! Only it's painted. Mine is a frown, naturally but I'm always laughing on the inside. Ha!

Heh.. Wasn't quite expecting a reply on a rant about not smiling.

Well, here's my virtual smile to all who have been victimized by an obnoxious Jack A who obviously can't tell if someone is in a decent or good mood.

Hey just seeing this thread reminds me of something Bill hicks said in one of his routines.

"People come up to me and say, 'What's wrong?' Nothing. 'Well, it takes more energy to frown than it does to smile.' Yeah, you know it takes more energy to point that out than it does to leave me alone"

I've had this a few times to and I just think of that line haha that puts a smile on my face!

Or the "You're so pretty when you smile. Why don't you smile more?"

Is my non-smiling ugliness frightening you?

I gotta commit that Bill Hicks quote to memory! Thanks

*oops I thought I was logged into my account but it seems this is my fiance's account!*

Sorry that was me. I didn't realize that you have to log into ATS and BTS separately.

For awhile I had to be reminded to smile. i was so used to crap I just kinda forgot. Life got better, esppecially when I just figured to heck with it all and started laughing at myself a bit.
I did like being so deadpan though, I have to admit. Now that I've gotten back into the habit of smiling, i can't do the deadpan jokes quite as well, but i get more smiles around me,a nd that's a bit better i think.

Well, I don't really like smiling unless I see the need. I don't want to look like some maniac sitting on a bench in a park smiling and the grass.

Smiling to everyone I see pass, is just... Weird. I'm not a perky person.

I mean, if someone gives a smile, i'll give a little back. But i'm not flat out going to tooth it up to every person I see.

"Why hello ma'am, splended evening is it not? Say, what do you say to a nice high five?"

Yeah... Maybe in the next life.
