I originally posted a brief account on the Usenet of an unknown cube that I saw in 2005. It may be that it was just the shipment/transport of some ordinary military hardware. But I'd like to know what you guys think and if anyone else has seen a similar occurance.

I am a freelance IT guy in Southern California. In the winter of 2005, I was driving home from a job very late at night on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. (sorry I don't remember the exact date). It was about 3AM and I was heading south on PCH towards Santa Monica. As I was passing Pepperdine University, I saw some kind of motorcade approaching. I thought that maybe a government official (like a senator or maybe even the president) was visiting a home in the Malibu area or perhaps just traveling through this area.

Here's a list of the vehicles I saw in the following order; three CHP motorcycle officers with lights flashing (no siren). They motioned for me and another car to pull over. Then, there were two black & white type police cars (lights flashing) and I believe they were also California Highway Patrol. Next, there were two 4WD type police SUVs (lights flashing) I had not seen before. They were different than the 4WD vehicles used by the local sheriff's department and park rangers in the Malibu area. Following that came two large black SUVs with lights flashing from the tops of their dashboards. Then came several military vehicles; two Humvees and another type of vehicle I've not seen before. It was a non-armored cargo or personnel truck type vehicle.

Now for the Grand Marshall of this 'parade'; A HUGE wide load flatbed truck. Not a regular semi but a really wide truck like they use for cranes. In the middle of the flat bed of the truck was an enormous cement cube. At least it looked like cement. It was about 10-12 ft high, grey in color and had a smooth surface but not shiny. There were no signs or markings on it. It was held down with steel cables along with other straps and fasteners. There were floodlights on the top rear section of the cab shining onto the cube. One of them was green in color which I found to be very odd. Various vehicles were taking turns driving up and down the length of the flat bed as they went. The entire group was moving at a pretty good clip. Behind the big flatbed truck, all the vehicles types and quantities came in the reverse order that I described earlier. I looked around for cars or trucks with steady-cams or other motion picture equipment in the immediate area but saw none. I've worked on movie sets while repairing computers for actors and crew plenty of times to know if a set was nearby and there was no indication that this was for a film shoot.

I looked over at the guy in the other car that was at the side of the road with me that was a few car lengths down. We looked at each other in amazement. At the time, my cell phone didn't have a camera. Oh how I wish I had a camera with me then. Anyway, we waited until they all passed then went on our way. I puzzled over that cube for days afterward. What was in there?

Has anyone here seen anything like this before? Why the big motorcade? There must have been two dozen personnel escorting this thing. If it was just some warhead, satellite or other secret item in that cube, why not keep it low key? What was up with all the lights shining on the cement cube? And why the green light? When I saw that, I immediately starting looking around for a film crew but saw none. I've seen military hardware on trucks before while on the freeway numerous times. There was never an escort like that. Since they were headed north, I can only assume they were headed to Port Hueneme Naval Base.

I know there are a lot of very smart people here and I'm very interested in what you guys think about this. Even if you think it's just a mundane shipment of military equipment. What do you think it was?

Wow, what a caravan

I would think it to be a warhead or maybe a bio weapon encased in that much concrete.

Did you talk to the other guy that saw it?

I would be pretty shaken up

Why the lights on it though? Whatever it was getting up and walking away. Very strange cae. Quick dry concrete on some crashed ufo? Total speculation.

I wasn't able to talk to the other guy. We were both in our cars. I had my window rolled down but he seemed to be in a hurry to leave and quickly drove away. I would have spoken to him if he had stayed for sure. At that point, I was looking for a film crew but didn't find one. There was definitely something important in that cube. I eventually became pretty shaken when I saw that it was a real thing and not for a film.

Given the security and the heavy duty concrete encasement, I would venture to guess it was Jimmy Hoffa's remains.

But seriously, a good possibility would be some sort of radioactive material, perhaps a strong neutron emitter to be used in non-destructive testing at the naval base?

One of the AFB's near where I live used to use a neutron beam emitter to detect metal fatigue and stress cracks in aircraft airframes.

X-rays would have been blocked by the metal in the a/c, and it was cheaper than disassembling the plane and doing the inspection by hand.

I believe they used Cobalt-60 as a neutron source: nasty stuff if it were to fall into the wrong hands.

I think it's most likely a satellite, e.g. from TRW or any of the other many space system engineering places in L.A. going up to Vandenberg for launch.

The "cement" was just the box they keep it in. Environmental control is pretty important.

Also consider that a road accident which damages this satellite could cost $100 million. I don't think GEICO will cover that one.

That could justify the motorcade---consider the wide load and road hazard of the truck. It's just safety.

That sounds like a likely candidate to me. Cobalt-60 is one of those things you really want to keep encased in six feet thick or better of concrete when you're not using it. Pretty much any isotope used in military industrial radiology might get the presidential treatment for transport.

Could also be a hard gamma emitter, like Cesium 137. Those are more often used for medical purposes (generally sterilization through irradiation), though, and I don't know what the military would be doing with it, besides medical stuff (they do run a lot of hospitals). Those are also stored in extremely thick concrete when not in use.

If anyone was to get their hands on a few grams of either of those substances with the intention of making a dirty bomb, the could render a city uninhabitable for decades. We're talking some seriously dangerous radioactives, here. I wouldn't doubt that either would warrant a motorcade.

On Monday, July 25, 2005, in the evening, an architect was walking on the beach at Matosinhos in northern Portugal when he spotted an unusual "cube-shaped UFO."

cube UFO

Cube UFO mass sighting over Russia. This year.

Cube UFO

As I walked closer to this glow, I got to about ten feet away... on the ground was a yellow glowing cube of light! It was about 4 feet by 4 feet, it made no sound and gave off no heat.

UFO sightings

Looking out of a window, he saw a "cube" shaped object which glowed like a light bulb. It flew around some nearby towers. Ploeg was frozen as he watched the unknown flying object. He could not get his father to come and see the object, but his brothers quickly joined him at the kitchen window.
UFO witness

I was sitting on the passengers side staring out the window as I said earlier, when I saw a brownish black object hovering about 100 feet in the air and less than a quarter of a mile away from me.

United States UFOs

2000-10-03 - oct 1 around 7;15. i was looking at the moon through a pair of binoculars 20x50 when i spotted cube shaped object higher than the moon

UFO sighting map USA

What I am trying to say is that this cube is a 'UFO' of some type. They have been seen world wide over some strange countries and when slow or on the ground are dull black / dark grey. When moving they are reddish / lit well from within.

Yeah, I know it sounds real mad and you may dismiss it - but a cube is actually a very very common shape for UFO witnesses to see, and its one of the most believable.
