Oh thats too funny... blooming quality. added jack diddly whip to the thread but man it made me laugh out loud.

As for levitation, bloody ace. Light bending around objects like a fluid ? dammit stealths going to go all harry Potter cloak on us.

Cheers for posting

just thought as this thread was talkign about bending light etc..
id throw this LINK from another thread on here

I wouldn't classify this as being breaking news as both the article as a thread have been posted august last year.

This was almost a year ago. I'll be more excited when they can demonstrate something beyond theory.

This has long been the idea behind how antigravity could work, (i.e. reversing the natural effect), but it would be nice to see more technical data regarding HOW they do this, rather than just a few tidbits about a lens....

though, a bit of further research yielded this:

arxiv.org...

Warning: Heavy physics stuff....but I know I've got something to read for a while!

S + F...hopefully they can utilize the frictionless capabilities to create perpetual motion/free energy devices. This should be the first in a long line of breakthroughs that will come from turning the Casimir Effect into a repulsive force.

I've been doing some further research, but hitting some dead ends with needing subscriptions for full articles (even checked for the articles in the University's databases like ProQuest, Infotrac, EBSCO, etc.), but the abstracts of the articles are very interesting.

They go a bit more technical than the article, so give one more to chew on regarding all of this. The key seems to be metamaterials, and perfect lenses...both for invisibility and for levitation applications. Who would have thought these two ideas would be so closely related...??? Well, those of us interested in aliens of course!!!

I may just have to get a subscription to this (Science magazine) as most of them seem to be there, specifically in the volume 312 series.

Example:

Controlling Electromagnetic Fields

J. B. Pendry,1* D. Schurig,2 D. R. Smith2
Using the freedom of design that metamaterials provide, we show how electromagnetic fields can be redirected at will and propose a design strategy. The conserved fields—electric displacement field D, magnetic induction field B, and Poynting vector B—are all displaced in a consistent manner. A simple illustration is given of the cloaking of a proscribed volume of space to exclude completely all electromagnetic fields. Our work has relevance to exotic lens design and to the cloaking of objects from electromagnetic fields.

It's called Magnetism. No tremendous secret or advancement.

Einstein himself said nuclear power is dwarfed by magnetic power and if we can control it, we can travel to other stars.

We are decades from doing so...

Well, in theory this is exciting. But the reality is they are talking about tiny forces here. Basically the concept is that you can use the effect of particles coming in and out of existence in the quantum world as a force. By using special liquids and materials, you can in theory reverse the force. It's only been done in math so far, and they haven't identified the materials yet. The application they see is nanomachines, not levitating aircraft and such. There was an article about this in Discover magazine recently.

didnt nasa state recently they would be doign that in 5 years?
using some form of magnetic propulsion
earth to mars in 3 hours, ands 11 light years in 80 days i recall?
if i can find the thread ill post a link

Why would you want to go to Mars? Think bout it theres nothing there.
Unless you believe in greys, in which case wouldn't lots of grey people stick out on a bright orange planet?

I may sound ignorant but doesnt this just mean that things will be repelled by a miniscule amount and not enough to even be noticeable to the naked eye? I dont remember them specifying how high something could be levitated.

It's actually very relevent. The devil is working in many more ways around us than we can even imagine. Everyone should be extremely careful not to be easily swayed by the greatest liar of all.

'incredible levitation effects’ by engineering the force of nature which normally causes objects to stick together.

sounds a lot like they're trying to re-invent the wheel in another way by creating some sort of an electromagnet. might have nothing to do with canceling gravity in any way.

Err I hate to be the bringer of realism, but I will be more excited when they actually have more than theoretical mathematics. I'm not sure why they chose ot use a picture of a magnetic toy to illustrate their story.

Unfortunately, you do not bring realism. You bring unintentional deception.

Now, using a special lens of a kind that has already been built, Prof Ulf Leonhardt and Dr Thomas Philbin report in the New Journal of Physics they can engineer the Casimir force to repel, rather than attact.

You really should *read* the article before posting.

Newspapers are always so grandiose, and as Shere so accurately explained. The picture is of a toy... not directly related to the article.

Yes, the picture is of a toy, but they have performed this. It is not mere mathematics, so Shere did not *accurately* explain anything other than the picture was of a toy.

And I quote

Why is it that people don't actually *read* the articles which are posted, and simply believe the first piece of mental feces which they can throw at it is somehow valid?

Ugh!

Are you really that blind? Dude... they said explicitly that it had nothing to do with an elctromagnet.

The force is due to neither electrical charge or gravity, for example, but the fluctuations in all-pervasive energy fields in the intervening empty space between the objects and is one reason atoms stick together, also explaining a “dry glue” effect that enables a gecko to walk across a ceiling.

PLEASE! Read the article next time to check your assumptions before posting, lest you appear as bright as a brown dwarf.

If this discovery leads to frictionless mechanisms. It can also lead to perpetual motion? theoretically.

lets not relate every thing to boulderMD who was clearly debunked. Im sure they didnt just admit this the instance the VERY instance it happened. This would have been tested and tested then released to the press as a formal press release. Any one who goes to a local university/reseach facility or lives locally would have the ability to keep up to date with their progress through local papers and any other medium such as faculty papers and word of mouth.

Think Logically!!

They say they can reverse the Casimir effect. It looks like this is at a nano scale right now. But they believe it is scalable and works at a distance. If this were true, it could harness ZPE as a motive force. The Casimir effect is the Zero Point Energy in action.
