The thought "vain" oubliettes brings forth images of fur-lined manacles.

How the hell did this line of dialogue get started anyway?

Why, thank you SD! It's been awhile since I nipped a bit of the ol' Bailey's.

Hmm, NYK hasn't been online since Monday. I'm guessing it's "family time", perhaps? If so, all the best wishes!

In his absence, I ask:

Good morning, pub! Any breaking news to report?

Good morning!

Yup, it looks like it's probably time for a new little nyk jr. to be arriving. Bummer about your fight, but he'll probably have some sleepless nights coming up to work on his posts

As for me, I am without credit/debit card until a new one arrives, and flat out of cash

I may have to locate my checkbook and go to an actual bank to see an actual teller

Wow, it must be a long time since you've gone to a teller. They all make you swipe your ATM card now, even if you're doing a face-to-face transaction.

Pro-tip: for 'ATS fun points', keep two bank accounts. Direct-deposit your paycheck into one, and withdraw it in cash every payday. Then, make irregular cash deposits into the other. Bonus points for exceeding the $5K reporting threshold.

Really? I have never had this happen but then again, I haven't seen a teller face-to-face in years except for the business line/aisle.

Why do they do that?

I suppose it's some kind of ID security measure - swipe your card, enter your PIN, check your DL. I should qualify my statement - I don't know that they all do that, just all the bank I've used. Perhaps it's different in other parts of the country. Like, I was surprised when I traveled to other regions and the gas stations there allowed you to pump your gas before paying, then go inside and settle up with cash. Seemed very strange; none of the stations here in California allow that.

Uh-oh. I just assumed that they'd let me get cash at the actual bank.

Someone got hold of the credit/debit card number and started making charges, so they canceled it and it doesn't work anymore. If I can't get cash with a check at the bank, I'm going to be begging in the streets for the next week or so

Oh I'm sure it won't be a problem; just bring two forms of ID. They doubtless have alternate procedures - you know, driver's license, passport, social security card, fingerprint, retinal scan, urine test - the standard stuff.

Sorry to hear about the inconvenience; glad you caught it in time. I had that happen a few years ago (stolen check); it was a hassle but the bank handled it well.

I didn't actually catch it – the bank did. Someone charged $0.01 and then $0.09 to it, and that kind of tipped them off that bad things were happening

So they canceled it, causing me to panic completely when it was declined, but not before someone charged $350.00 at the online MuseumOfModernArt store.

At least I know my thief has taste.

And yeah, the bank's totally handling the whole thing. It's just a hassle to not have a card for a week.

EDIT to 'fess up. Actually, this is probably the fourth or fifth time I've had to have a card canceled and replaced. Usually, I leave them places
This time, I don't know how they got the number.

I think there should be a valentines tourney - just for fun, and maybe under a slightly different format to enable a speedy end

I already suggested that but my idea was naysayed. I suggested a 'Valentines Skirmish' and it sounded like a lot of fun but they threw eggs at me for even bringing up the idea.

Sad singletons don't want to be reminded at that time of year

If we think about it in a non jealous manner, there are loads of really good topics.

That would be more of a skirmish type of thing I would imagine. I really liked the format Chissler threw out a few weeks ago. Opening, Statement, Closing - 48 hrs. To a sybaritic, functioning voluptuary like myself, I have to say that sounds civilized.

But I like the idea of a quick Valentines skirmish, and if we used the shortened format above, we could perhaps make the character counts longer.

None of which answers my original question though. So am I to assume no one knows, or it has not been decided? Hmmmm... I think it is time to turn to the quiet man in the dark corner, the one with all the answers...

SEMPER! Can you hear me?!

*peers into the dark*

I'm going over there, see what I can find out.

EDIT TO ADD: I am back! Semper is busy studying right now, but he said he and Mem are going to pow-wow soon and figure out a start date which will probably be in the near future -- a couple of weeks.

I think I was throwing Cadbury Creme Eggs, not hen's eggs, though

You all can have your Valentine's Day fun, I'm gonna pout at home.

after re-reading the last two pages with all the multisylabl vocabulary i am dizzy
this doesn.t make my shoulder ok

careful guys, i am on ibu too

today i found a kind of good cure
wheat pillow that covers the shoulders and can be woren in bed too

since it is too expensive to buy - from 13 to 20 euros i sewed it by myself
therefore the fabric is harry potter style - was the only real cotton i found and it has to be heated in the oven (i don.t have a microwave)

that.s how it looks like

@dingbat
sorry to hear about your cash problem
did they steal your card or just the number of it?
strange

@ian
when i was in san francisco in 2000 they really had to explain the gasstations to me
in germany you take gas, go inside to the counter and pay
that is common usage

hi pub!

Hi Orange

Glad you found something that helps a bit.

They just got the number. I don't know if they got it through something I've purchased onlline, or off a receipt somewhere that I paid in person – heck, they could have hacked the bank for all I know.

I'm pretty sure I haven't used it online anywhere new recently, but there are places that have it. It's really not a big deal, just a minor hassle. And I already blew my own credit rating, so that's not a big concern either

EDIT to comment on gas stations:

the states that really get me are the ones where you're not allowed to pump your own gas. The first time an attendant told me that when I was living in Oregon I thought he was trying to rip me off somehow.

And I already blew my own credit rating, so that's not a big concern either

gas stations:
it was common usage about 20 years agi taht you weren. allow to pump your own gas.
