The earthquake that ravaged China last week may also have set off other quakes around the globe, but that data has not been analyzed yet. But the new research shows that major earthquakes may routinely set off smaller jolts, even on the opposite side of the planet and in areas not prone to quakes.



Just read this article on LiveScience, this is similar to a theory I was picking up on when the swarms started off the Oregon coast, or at least when I started noticing the swarms! I noted on the Quake watch thread that every time one hits at a latitude, somewhere else along that same line of latitude others would hit shortly after.
