Rift in al-qaeda? Radical Muslims now saying violence is sinful.

www.npr.org

"It's very profound in the radical edge of it," says Wright, who explores the ideological rift for an article in next week's New Yorker magazine. "Before, moderate Muslims have spoken out against violence in the name of Islam, but now radicals are doing the same thing. And what's fascinating is that they're attacking on two grounds: One is that [violence is] not practical because it hasn't achieved their purposes. And secondly, it's sinful. It is placing the souls of the people who commit this violence in great jeopardy."

I have to admit, I didn't see this one coming. Could this be God moving on their hearts here in The End Times?

I honestly think that while the next five years are going to be a difficult time on planet Earth, that the outlook after that is very good, and this is just another sign. I think we could have peace between the Christian world and the Muslim world for the first time.

Radical Muslims seem to realize that they must win the political debate if they are ever going to have a chance to win, and they are loosing that debate at this time.

While some maybe feeling this way, The evil ones will keep up the fight. Sorry to say but the anti-Christ is already here. Things will get very bad this summer and he will make his presence known and it wont stop till December 2012.

How can you believe in the anti-christ? and why would it happen now?
All through history people have claimed that someone is the Anti-christ and it never ever ever is, neither is it the end times, throughout history people have claimed it is the end of the world etc, flaggants during the plagues claimed it was the wrath of God for there sins, but we're still here.
If you say the antichrist is here "because the bible says so" the Bible also says that Jesus split one loaf of bread between 5000 people, do you believe that?
And if you say it is because it is when the Mayan calendar ends, two things
1. The Mayans are all dead, and don't you think as a society we're a bit more advanced than them
2.2012 is when the Mayan calendar ends, apparently the end times, but by Muslim reckoning the year is 1428, according to the Jews its 5768 and according to the Hindus its 5109, so we either have 572 years left or it happened roughly 3000 years ago. In which case we have no need to worry.

Bingo. I think people are starting to get it.

Violence begets violence. No peace ever came down the barrel of a gun.

When you destroy, nothing is created. Fighting evil with greater evil just adds insult to injury and is more destructive.

What would America do in the war on terror if every Iraqi came out of their houses (or rubble piles, whatever the case may be) waving white flags? What if every news company in the world saw Iraq renounce violence completely... all across the board?

Where would the war spending go? What would the soldiers do? What would the war profiteers do now?

I believe it was Eisenhower who said "Beware the military industrial complex". And Von Braun who explained that the military would always come up with one "enemy" or another, lastly, in his opinion the extraterrestrials.
There's too much money in war not to have war.

Peace is a rumor made up by a over active imagination. There can't and never will be peace. Man has been fighting man since the beginning of man and will continue to do so until the demise of man. Maybe Muslim extremist are finally becoming somewhat sane, but there will always be a war. You can pray for peace, but always prepare for war. Always be ready to do or die. And if peace ever did come it would be at the barrel of a gun. One mans peace might be another mans hell. Then they would pick up arms to fight for their peace and so the world turns.

Just today, I believe it was on FOX news, they were saying we were starting to make progress pushing al-qaeda back and the Iraqi military was now better trained and equiped than 2 years ago. Is this a sign al qaeda sees the chaos produced by their actions, chaos in their own part of the world and for their own people.

Why December of 2012? It always boggles my mind when people come up with these random dates for bad things to happen. Why not have random dates for very good things to happen? What if in December of 2012 the whole entire world dropped their weapons and hugged? In December of 2012 i'm going to be celebrating Christmas and getting drunk. Not awaiting Planet X, Jesus, or the anti-christ. And if for some very odd reason this stuff happens, so be it. You die, big deal.

I dont believe it not one bit as this contradicts thousands of years of hate and oversimplifies things. next u would tell me that al qaeda is becoming a hippie organization aimed at spreading peace onto the world. no money power is at stake no one is changing ideologies till things calm down and all is settled then there can be a makeover. until then we will witness nothing but violence. At the very most this shows us that alqaeda at the moment arent at the top of their game thats all.

Great point! Why ARE predictions always so dire? Do we as a species prefer dread to anticipation?

Well about "the hippie organization", at least they have the clothes for it.
And as I said the Iraqi army is stronger now and more effective. But wouldn't idealogy changes account for al qaeda not being at the top of their game?

I've always wondered it myslef. It's always such bad things in predictions. And if there are good predictions we certainly don't hear about them enough.

their chances of converting people in the west would be increased if the Islam would take a strong position against violence.it is a good step!

I certainly hope it doesn't lead to converting more people to Islam. That would not IMO be a good step.

You know, if you think about it just what would a good prediction be anyhow? A lot of really good weather? Feeling really good? How about if everyone was to become rich. But if everybody had the same amount of money no one would be rich.

I don't think a big conversion to Islam by Westen cultures is going to happen for many o' years.

Any of those predictions sound pretty good, to me. I mean look at the latter predictions. Doomsday, world wars, the anti-christ, planet-x, and the list gets longer and longer. What about a prediction that's something like: "On this day everyone will wake up happy and refreshed." Even something that simple would be really nice.
