A person may speak for themself of rightiousness; but to do so about the affairs of another land is questionable, when there remains so much unrightiousness in ones own land.
I am not Chinese, but I have been to mainland China. They seem to be a good people. Simple generous and sincere. They give up much, willingly for the good of the whole, and in turn for the good of themselves.
They are more profoundly like Americans than people wish to recognize.
The differences lie in the subtleys. The prime difference being the focus on social and personal interconnectedness. Unlike the American trend toward alienation.
My one regret for the Chinese people is that they have bought into the western way, lock stock and barrel. They had the opportunity to have technology without making the mistake of the automobile. I wish for them they had looked at our mistakes as well as our successes, and designed a more sane way of life than we have.
They clearly prize technological development over their own cultural heritages. This is understandable after the cultural revolution where Mao worked to erase their historical culture. Now they like to parade in the costumes of the subcultures for major events, while erasing the subcultures themselves from existence.
Oh what a sad world they will find when they can drive from one end of China to the other and never experience a difference from having stayed home.

do you freedom/human rights fighter so bravely protests against the torture ur super civilized, righteous, humane gov inflicts on the terrorist suspects or the iraqi prisoners? or the way ur very humane sensible brave white cops treat the black bums or wrong them into prinson (per ur own TV program)? or the time-and-again missed bomb exploding scores of iraqi civilians or even soldiers of ur dear allies? or the savage massacre of chidren and women commited by Israeli soldiers at the small Lebanese villiage or Palestinian slums? or the distorted reports of ur alleged just media about China or the Chinese gov?

Anyway, I was working in the area of human rights throughout the years, and I think what we have done both domestically and for the oppressed countries had a good result. In our case we could not just stay and watch quietly all those dictators doing a serious harm to people in the countries they have the power. We had to speak out and we will always do that, either individually or not. That is our moral obligation - at least for us.

BTW, in case u guy will mention the 89 student democratic movement, all i want to say is: it's history, like ur dirty history about the indians, the black slaves (it's still not history in ur country now), ur resort to war to prevent the south from seceding from the federation (why? do u really believe all they want to free the black slaves?) come on, let by-gones be by-gones. let's focus on the status quo.
