Presidents condemn US shield plan

Russia and China have condemned a US plan for a missile defence shield, saying it will set back international disarmament efforts.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed the joint statement with Chinese President Hu Jintao while in Beijing on his first official foreign trip.

The US says the missile system is key to its own security and that of allies.

Both Russia and China have opposed the plans in the past but this is the first time they have come together to do so.

Russia and china come to gather on this one
their dislike of the new US missile shield that would most likely undermine russian and chineese second or first strike capibilities.

so what would they do apart from keep on complaing?
do as Iran and other countries said build their own defence network
like the US?

Well... don't you find it funny that we are govern by extreme paranoid indivduals?
They all keep going "oh my deity!! I have to build this shield otherwise everyone in the world is out to get me!!"
It's all poke you poke me for no reason what so ever. Remember the good old statement "I am what you make me"... call anyone, even someone with no ill intentions towards you, a threat to your safety and eventually they will be.

If China is content with a missile shield that only reaches as far as their own borders then why can't the states be that? There'll be no first strike from anyone, it's fear mongering for the purpose of control.

Looks like the world is polarising... this could be a bad rift.

Some sort of strategic pact between Russia and China seemed impossible, but it looks like they have come together to resist the US missile plan.

Could this be the start of some bigger conflict? Why was the USA so interested in getting India as an ally using the Nuke deal? I wonder if the USA envisages a power play between the West and East once more... cold war style.

It wouldnt be a surprise any more- after all, Russian bombers are flying sorties to the UK and Alaska nowadays; the revolution parade in Russia brought out military hardware for the first time since the end of the Soviet Republics... Is this evidence of a USSR reformation? Just like a crappy boyband that wont quit...

The only reason China and Russia are complaining about this is either they do not feel it is feasible for them to create their own missile shield, or they believe the American shield will work.

The one thing that might worry people is the fact that in order to overcome a "shield", nuclear countries might produce thousands of warheads in order to "overwhelm" any missle defense sheild.

Remember Ladies and Gentlemen, only one nuke need get through.

I can't believe how paranoid and fearfull most of the US and the world has become. Many of my friends comment on their fear of another terrorist strike.

FEAR will be our downfall.

Im against all the offensive stuff our country is doing right now as far as Iraq and Iran and most of you hear me dog on our government all the time over it. But you know something Im in agreement with the government on this. It is called a missile shield. Shield being the key word is a defense system I do not see the big deal with this. If we were putting 1000 missiles pointing at them I could see the big deal but this is if they decide to strike us. If they had no intentions of attacking what do they have to worry about?

Wow...you're right. Countries might produce hundreds, if not thousands of weapons...

...oh wait...they already have.

Russia and China are whining because the defense shield will make it
harder for them to destroy us when that bigger conflict comes.

I think one of the big problems is that the US wants to use other countries for installations. I really don't care is the US wants to put a big glass bubble around themselves, the moment they start telling my government that are putting this hardware in my country, I have a problem with it...and yes they have already said that we getting them.

Hmm.. well it is what it is. China needs oil from Iran. Russia produces alot of its own oil, but still getting alot of money from Iran for nuclear assistance. The fact that Iran is run by a religious fundamentalist isn't as detrimental to them as securing their economies.

Still, they can whine all they want but surely they can understand the US position, considering 911, and continued threats from that region of the world.

There only complaining cause they dont have the technology to make a defense shield themselves! Other wise they would have built one as a response to Americas one.
