cause as in "cause and effect", not cause as in a purpose.

I guess you do not believe evolution is the cause for the origin of species since there was no intelligent motivation behind it.

Science is the search for causes. The law of causation is what science if founded on. If there were no causes science would not be possible. Which goes back to my main point in the OP about the rational intelligibility of the universe. There is a uniformity in nature which implies a higher order than random processes.
