I read the Mothman Prophecies a long time ago and I was just wondering if any ATS members had any links to any websites about the moth man or if they had personally seen the Moth Man.

Secondly, I wanted to discuss what yall thought of the "MIBs" not real Men In Black but close, that are mentioned in the book. The various suspicous individuals seen around town before the bridge collapsed.

EDIT: For once the Cookie Monster makes a point, if the Mothman was real, then why havent there been more sightings since the bridge collapsed.

After seeing the movie last night, and now reading the above link, it seems Hollywood took a lot of liberties with the actual happenings. I'm guessing it would be a good idea to read Keel's book!

I read a story back in 2002 about the Mothman being seen on 9/11. Someone said they were going to take the elevator down after the plane hit, but there was a dark figure with terrifying red eyes, so he/she rushed to the stairway and make his/her way down. Apparently they weren't on a high floor or anything, but this person claims the Mothman saved his/her life.

I myself have found some fascinating websites about the creature, which lives right by my state, Virginia. I also read that MM is an ancient creature from very very long time ago, some sort of demon thing, and was somehow arisen in the mid 1960's. Siting of the creature go back 100 years ago, and it is said to be over 5,000 years old.

Strange, eh?

What I don't understand (and yes I have read the book and watched the movie) is why such a creature that obviously has some sort of extra sense or something along those lines would be hanging around saving human lives. I have read reports of where it was dated as far back as the Roman Empire, sadly that link has been lost. It always interested me though nonetheless.

somebody should look into demonology and see if they can find any discriptions of demons that match the mothman. it would be interesting to know if he was a demon and if there is a spell or incantation that can summon him up

They were living there at the time of the original sightings and actually know the people who claimed to have seen Mothman. And, the Silver Bridge really did collapse mysteriously and kill quite a few people. Just google Mothman, there's a huge wealth of info out there.

I think I have read it. Was it the one that mention Bezaulbub in the first couple chapters? And the dude who kept going to peoples houses asking to use the phone? Because, I have read that.
If Keel was the Author than yes I have read it.

Mothman is very unique. it really doesn't fit into any known category other than Cryptozoology. Im not sure what to think about it. John Keel's website is
www.mothmanlives.com...
He has sightings and many other things. the theory about him being created because of Genetic Mutation is absolutely Bogus. Even before West Virginia was a state, the Native Americans would stay away from it because of , as they called it, "the devil that haunted the place". The flatwoods monster is also in the same state. You should check that out.
If you have already read The Mothman Prophecies, then you should check out "the Mothman, and other creepy Phenomena, By Loren Coleman. it covers the Flatwoods Monster and The Mothman very well.

Mothman Sightings and Theories Part 1/12
www.youtube.com...

Filmmaker and paranormal researcher Charlie McCracken discussed his comprehensive research on the Mothman sightings, including little known witness accounts. He was joined during the evening by Travis Shortt and Matthew Flemming who worked with him on his documentary about Mothman, "Dark Wings." For the film, McCracken said he took one of the original 1966 witnesses, Linda Scarberry, back to the location of where she saw a winged creature in Point Pleasant, WV.-- and all these years later she was still terrified to return to the site.

Shortt noted that all the witnesses were scared by what they saw and though they varied in their estimates of the creature's height (from 6 ft. to 9 ft.) they all concurred that it had glowing red eyes that were mesmerizing. He suggested that Mothman is a type of demonic manifestation, and added that there have been sightings of such a creature as recent as 2005, outside of Nashville.

McCracken hypothesized that because Point Pleasant sits at the juncture of two large rivers, the moving water may create electrical or magnetic disturbances which could either affect residents' perceptions or open a portal to another dimension. Flemming opined that Mothman may simply be an as-of-yet unidentified type of creature such as Bigfoot.

Mothman Prophecies Pt.1/11
www.youtube.com...

For thirteen months from November 15, 1966 to December 15, 1967, the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia was gripped by a real-life nightmare that culminated in a tragedy that made headlines around the world. Strange occurrences and sightings, including a bizarre winged apparition that became known as the Mothman, trouble this ordinary American community. Mysterious lights were seen moving across the sky. Domestic animals were found slaughtered and mutilated. Journalist John A. Keel arrived on the scene to investigate the freakish events and soon found himself to be an integral part of an eerie and unfathomable mystery. The Mothman Prophecies is now a major motion picture.
