Nevada to bill Fossett widow for search

The US state of Nevada intends to bill the widow of missing millionaire adventurer Steve Fossett for $US687,000 ($A729,000) it spent in searching for the famed aviator last year.

Why are they sending a bill to the widow. I beleive that you wold only be sent a bill if it was a hoax!!

Why pay the bill. He was not found so the search product was defective. I suppose the law is written to allow for failure but payment required.

That's what I can't understand, but when reading the below link it says that the state is cutting spending. The final decission is with the governor of Nevada.www.foxnews.com...
