Wow...that wake island really is OFF THE CHART. I've never seen a center line seismo go the whole way off its chart (I assumed they capped at the edges).

If this is a quake then there are tsunami racing outward from there right now. I'd say its either a malfunction or some one just kicked a surface level seismo or something.

Gonna look around for more info...

Ok, I just found info that Wake is known to have insane readings that are false.

Apparently some "known artifact". My guess would be it has something to do with the nearby air field, or possibly something military related.

I found the info in another online forums, so i'm not gonna link directly to ATS competition...that makes the mods cry.

Don't worry, it was posted at ATS first.

During the original "World Wide Seismic Event" thread, we noticed Wake & Midway Islands and their anomolous readings.
Doing a bit of searching, I found out both are small islands with big airstrips ... military, of coursse.
Sooooo, generally one should overlook those two seismos on the USGS site.

Quake Analysis

It's worth noting that at this point the projected overall activity (4 and up) will match last year, but we have to go back to 1994 to get as active on the 5-5.9 range. We have to go back to 1996 for the 6-6.9 range. And back to 1999 for the 7-7.9 range.

In summary, it appears that we are maintaining a very high level of activity in the larger mag quakes, compared to the past four years.

With these perdections for 2004 , its almost 10,000 earthquakes of 4+ and greater this year. That seems huge. I follow the earthquake site, there are ussally anywhere from 10 to 100 a day. Most are smaller than 4+. good work

Okay, I have just added something the Quake Analysis, so you might refresh that link. I have added an analysis of the monthly count for the past 13 months.

I will update this portion about mid-month every month (mid-month because sometimes the quakes get adjusted in mag or added for a couple of weeks).

We've been having quakes of the coast here like crzy these days. In the last ten days I've seen in the local newspaper that there were at least 4 or 5 earthquakes south of and west of my island, the magnitude of all of them were around 3.2 to 3.8 except for yesterdays quake, which was 4.4. Although I haven't felt not one of them, I'm starting to a little worried about this.

We are 70W & 12.3N the quakes are around the area.

Holy Cow Bandit! I hadn't heard that there were quakes happening out your way. You better keep your hiking boots ready to climb that volcano-thingy and get out of the high water if a big one comes!

I have updated the quake analysis. FYI, I had an error on last week's charts (I hadn't updated the percent of year complete) so it threw last week's predicted bars high...sorry. I only do this every week so its not like I should be used to it or something. *

worldwatcher pointed out that there was a 5.5 in Turkey today.

25-MAR-2004 19:30:49 39.93 40.86 5.5 10.0 TURKEY

In fact, there were several 5.0+ quakes today globally. And, there was a 6.0 in the past 24 hours.

There is a big number of quakes happening, but there a large number of BIG quakes happening.

(was asked to put this in here, which worldwatcher found first.
, so here it is.)

It is not in the news yet in the States. I think. I just checked on a live seismic monitor.

Here is another link to a live monitor which also recorded the 6.6 Earthquake in Afghanistan-Tajikistan region.

They keep getting these big earthquakes over there. There was one on Solomon islands also a 5.5-5.6 and another there too 5.4.
one after the other.

There is also a 5.9 but they don't mention where.

Whoa Nelly! This is wild and crazy.

Nearly every seizmic monitor had a most interesting
event take place, twice today. I've been monitoring
this site for quite some time now. Never seen any
recordings look this similar in so many places. Is the earth moving or what, today?
