It would be the first step to cleaning up the moral decline of our society, last year the FCC received a record 2.5 millions complaints due to TV, and if people thought that beefing up the FCC's abilities to punish vulgarity would result in the loss of the first amendment I dont think there would be such a public praise for what happened to howard stern. I dont agree with puting labels on CDs and Video Games but I do think TV is far to unregulated by mega corporations, so I think in short, your wrong.

No by the people stepping in and saying that the company shouldn't take him off the air even though he is just another employee and and be fired. It is the FCC controlling bussiness' that makes me sick

Yes more power needs to be given back to the people, the only way to cleanse democracy is more democracy.

Freedom of speech is freedom of speech...if you or your little children cant handle listening to "adult" words then you can simply turn off your t.v. or radio....Hell if its that big of a deal to you then why not just throw out your t.v. and radio and only allow your children to read books.

Whtas next after this????? are they going to start CENSORING the internet????

CENSORING is what is wrong....other peoples opinion being more valid than the other person and controlling what is said is not freedom of speech..IMO

I'm not for excessive vulgarity or anything, but absolutely nothing Clear Channel does is to benefit the consumer. and really, if they want to clean up their stations it won't be that hard...they syndicate most of their DJs anyway.

Hey it's clear channel's loss if he is fired becasue Howard is loved by many many more supporters who drive his ratings up through the roof. Someone else will just snatch him up and boots their rating 20 points.

true, but Japan's attitudes to sex and violence are completely different from those in the US. (and really, probably most of the western world.) this is, after all, the country that sells used panties in vending machines. I don't know if it's necessarily better or worse...but it is definitely different. (also, weird tidbit of the day: in Japanse porn, pubic hair is blurred out. don't ask me why they do it. it doesn't make much sense at all.)

Nobody ever explained it to me anyways, how seeing a boob or hearing the "F Word" is supposed to make children grow up to be homicidal maniacs........or whatever it is that people are so afraid of.

It seems to be the biggest underlying principle of our society that everything be centered around the 'protection' of children from nudity or 'dirty words'. Protection?
I really dont understand what it is exactly that people want to protect them from.

I don't really think this is an outright violation of freedom of speech, but censorship is very wrong. Its wrong that nearly every decision made is based on some unrealistic ideal of how we want our children to be raised.

And we all know, by the way that raising your children has very little to do with the parents, because most parents let the media raise their children for them. If some parents are that concerned with the whole thing, then they should take a more active part in the lives of their kids, and turn the #ing channel if they dont like what they see.

'nuff said.

Who can have the power to justify what is right or wrong for everyone? Its like me saying that I don't like to hear you talk so I'm going to legally have your vocal cords cut. No one should be able to make that decision. If you don't want to listen or watch something, ignore it! Its as simple as that. Anyone who complains about the indecency of radio, tv, movies, music, etc... has the ability to ignore it. What makes you so high and mighty that you would get rid of something that someone else may like? These Christian Rights groups annoy the hell out of me. They run the FCC and just about any thing that deals with censorship. They run the whole government! They also love to take the bible out of context and use it for their own ends. Hypocrites, all hypocrites. As long as it makes them feel good, it makes it right. I hope we do go into anarchy - then I will have the ability to take them out. Don't take the last comment literally.
