US Attack on Pakistan "imminent" says Pakistani Press

www.presstv.ir

Pakistani main media outlets have accused the Bush administration of planning to launch a military action against the country.
The Pakistani daily Nawa-i-Waqt accused US President George W. Bush of 'directly targeting' Pakistan.

"President George Bush's latest interview is proof that Pakistan is a direct target of the US, which wants to maintain pressure on Pakistan on some pretext or other so that its illegitimate demands are met [and] wants to keep its options open for a direct [military]

George W. Bush had earlier told the ABC News that it is possible that a 9/11-like attack on the US is being planned inside Pakistan.

For some reason those people over there are scared. They have every reason to be. This attack will happen VERY soon.

I believe Bush will use the same excuse

ARTICLE 51 AND THE ARGUMENT FOR PRE-EMPTIVE SELF-DEFENSE
www.accessmylibrary.com...

Will continue introduce a new category of self-defensepre-emptive self-defense that he claims is legally justified in the new post-Sept. 11 world.

In Bush address to the United Nations General Assembly on Sept. 12, 2002, when he said, "The first time we may be completely certain Saddam Hussein has a nuclear weapon is when, God forbid, he uses one. We owe it to all our citizens to do everything in our power to prevent that day from coming." www.whitehouse.gov...

Then five days later The National Security Strategy

The United States, the American people, and our interests at home and abroad by identifying and destroying the threat before it reaches our borders. While the United States will constantly strive to enlist the support of the international community, we will not hesitate to act alone, if necessary, to exercise our right of self-defense by acting pre-emptively against such terrorists, to prevent them from doing harm against our people and our country….Given the goals of rogue states and terrorists, the United States can no longer solely rely on a reactive posture as we have in the past. The inability to deter a potential attacker, the immediacy of today's threats, and the magnitude of potential harm that could be caused by our adversaries' choice of weapons, do not permit that option. We cannot let our enemies strike first….

This upcoming 9/11 style attack and/or war "imminent" attack on Pakistan will have him lying to us and the world once again. Best we can do now is prepare ourselves for the worse.

Well, Bush's comments were alarming to many Americans. It can't be a good feeling to be a Pakistani and hear him deliver that speech. I am still finding it difficult to keep up on who we might be attacking next.

I'm wondering if you noticed that this is from an Iranian publication, I would think that this is just more of the chest beating rhetoric that's coming from both sides. If people stopped believing this rubbish the world might just be a nicer place.

i myself just think that George W. Bush is only saying that there is going to be another 9/11 style attack just so he has a reason to attack pakistan and try and take over just like he is in iraq.
George W. Bush is gonna be the cause of WW3

There is no chance the US risking an attack.

Holy Cow, someone is planning attack on my country and i am not yet aware of that... hehe you must be kiddin' man. Pakistan is no Iraq Pakistan is no Afghanistan Pakistan is no Iran... what kind of attack they could plan... invasion? i thought even the stupidest guy among the Bush administration won't suggest that, and all they can do is fire some missile either from navy ships in sea or through Air Jets... on our Nuclear facilities..

come on guys, US can't fool anyone anymore, the only reason US invaded Iraq was because it didn't have WMD nor the ability to attack US within 45 min time else they would have never attacked them.

By the we Paki are not that fool as most our Buddies in US think, we not only border with Afghanistan but also Border with 'China' - and everyone is fully aware of our strategic relationship with them, a safer Pakistan is in the interest in of China, they won't let it happen in my opinion also they have been waiting for long to settle some scores with US hehehehe not to mention Russia,

President Musharaff once said (to rival India) no one like to attack us because we hardly can sustain any war they would take more than 15 days and we were left with no choice but to 'nuke' our enemy for our survival hehehehee!! make sense no?

U.S. Military Seeks to Widen Pakistan Raids

Published: April 20, 2008

WASHINGTON — American commanders in Afghanistan have in recent months urged a widening of the war that could include American attacks on indigenous Pakistani militants in the tribal areas inside Pakistan, according to United States officials.

The requests have been rebuffed for now, the officials said, after deliberations in Washington among senior Bush administration officials who fear that attacking Pakistani radicals may anger Pakistan’s new government, which is negotiating with the militants, and destabilize an already fragile security situation.

With that point taken in to account, and the structure of the statement refering to another 911 type event.

I would presume the statement addresses the option of stoping the 'event' pre-emptively within pakistan (attacking the terrorists) rather than an attack on the nation.

Read in to it what you will.

I also think that the news article is missleading in itself, in the way that it is forcing the word 'direct' three times in the second and third paragraph.

In my opinion it is trying make people see something that is not realy there.
