Base decisions on moral principles, Pope tells U.S.

in.reuters.com

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Saying he had come as a friend of the United States, Pope Benedict urged Americans and their leaders on Wednesday to base their political and social decisions on moral principles and create a more just society.

The pope also called for "patient efforts of international diplomacy to resolve conflicts" and promote progress around the world in an address to President George W. Bush at the White House on the first full day of his U.S. visit.

The pope has some merit on the international scene. His castigation of america's murderous and illegal warfare and policies can only be welcome.

LOLOLOL @ "Moral Principles"...

Does the pope realize who he is actually speaking to? THE MOST MORALLY BANKRUPT HEATHENS ON EARTH...

He might as well be telling Lucifer to denounce evil...lol.

Although I agree with what he's saying, his audience has no idea what the hell that even means...

Our President is a 'Born Again Christian'. Many of them (most of them who post on our forums) view Catholics and esp the Holy Catholic Church with disdain. I'm sure that the ceremonies offered the Pope by our State are more 'lip service' than anything as the Protestant faith does not recognize the Pope and God's Holy Messenger on Earth. Bush is more likely to take the advice and councel of Oral Roberts or even the ghost of Jerry Falwell before he considers the desires of the Pope.

The Pope needs to go bark up another tree when it comes to morals. By his definition of morals, we should be bombing other countries and torturing people without any accountability.

Morals...

I'm not going to drag out all the old chestnuts again, but IMO anyone from the RCC hierarchy talking about morality is a complete and utter hypocrite.

But then I've always had a bee in my bonnet about the RCC hierarchy (or a proportion of them anyway)

Funny how he's turned up again in an election year, especially when you take this into consideration.

Hey brothers and sisters can you spare 3 minutes for a brave sister who's incredible voice was buried while standing up for us all? Its only 3 minutes and its the least we can do.

I seem to remember that she got slaughtered for this, and received all kinds of threats.

Personally I've always had a soft spot for sinead - I like someone who speaks their mind and sod the consequences.

Plus the freaky haircut combined with the big blue eyes is strangely erotic

Here we go again....another trick problem...

The Pope is telling us to compare what is the 'Proper' moral position;

A. Turn-the other-cheek
B. Jihad

the guys' blowing smoke with a loaded
pro-western/pro-christian, biased, Q-&-A...which is option A.

Man, do i totally agree with that. All the pope would have to do, to judge the moral strength of america is watch the daily show, by jon stewert, or bumfights video. Those people love torture and have no morals whatsoever.

But at least he is doing his job. Being catholic, it does give me a sick feeling seeing the pope in land of lucifer. But sometimes a spiritual person needs to be in the darkness, so he can see the light again, when he leaves land of lucifer in a few days.
