Dalai Lama says China is good for Tibet
India Gazette
Saturday 19th January, 2008

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has said that Tibet has gained greater material benefit under China authority.

While addressing students of the Indian Institute of Management, he said every Tibetan wanted Tibet to modernise.

He said as far as material development was concerned, the country received greater benefit from remaining within the Peoples Republic of China.
Nevertheless, he said, Tibetans should fight for the 'wholesome interests' of Tibet and have meaningful autonomy.

there are indisputable history record and evidence that tibet has been part of china since yuan dynasty, the title dalai lama as well was given by the then central government.that's the time centuaries before first europeans arrived in americas.so ,historically, china has a better claim of tibet than european people for america.the only difference is since year 1959 till now ethnic tibetan poplulation has been nearly tripled, and what happened to native american indians?i didnt see any when i was in the states.

Wassa' matter? Can't you get the YOUTUBE video? Wonder why? OH yes .. because China has BANNED YOUTUBE. The poor Chinese people can't get news and the truth in to their own country.

View the YOUTUBE proof ... then get back to me.

All the video shows is a group of illegal immigrants which are trying to cross the border. Could be drug peddlers, CIA spies or whatnot the border police only knew that there was a large group of people who purposely avoided a customs checkpoint to cross the border. The Chinese Police at the border checkpoint had every right to protect Chinas territorial integrity.

i find this statement to be quite ironic since the Chinese government controls all the media outlets and viciously suppresses any form of media that doesn't conform to the ideology of the state.

and if China is so innocent why did they not allow foreign journalists to enter Tibet when the riots occurred?... and don't say it was for there safety because reporters often risk there lives in war zones..

and why does the Chinese government filter internet search engines (google, youtube)?

ps. i am also fully aware of the biased reporting of the MSM in the west but i am afraid it doesn't compare to the Chinese government efforts.

Or they could be nothing more than religious pilgrims driven by their faith and seeking to support the what they see as a crisis for the Tibetans.

You're dehumanising the victims unnessecarily - after all, they may have entirely moral or ethical reasons for attempting to evade the border police.

Even if they were drug peddlers or spies, it doesn't mean your security forces can snipe them willy-nilly.

Especially when they're trying to cross the mountains on foot and appear to be carrying no weapons or supplies whatsoever.

I wouldn't want to put my safety in danger or my countries just to give them the benefit of the doubt. Oh that guy with white powder might just be carrying flour. Oh that guy with what looks like a large package crossing the border might just be carrying lots of clothes. They were warned and yet they persisited

they may have entirely moral or ethical reasons for attempting to evade the border police.

Ill tell that to my parking inspector next time.

If gives them the right to escalate the situation from non-action to warning shoots and then action. If they happened to be Mexicans or worst drug smugglers would we be having this objection. The only saving grace with makes this a "moral" issue is they happen to be Tibetans

The Dalai Lama is a wonderful soul, but he shouldnt be making statements which are not true.

Did you know the Chinese gave each Tibetan a cellular phone, a digital camera and internet capabilities in order to sway them away from their beleifs and guess what? It didnt work... The Chinese wanted to convert them and it didnt work.
Tibetans see the Dalai as a weak person. They say they need a stronger ruler. What does the Dalai do when he cant even hurt a fly?
For one thing, dont peeve your own people up by speaking well of the Chinese who have them practically barricated in a small area.

Haha! I don't see the logic in pointing at others and saying "You're a bad person!" when trying to justify inhuman actions by a government.

First, what my forefathers did to the natives was unforgiveable, but I didn't do it, nor did any american alive today. Don't like what they did? Do something about it! Oh yeah... it already happenned, and is no longer taking place... so sorry, you can't do anything about it. BUT you can do something about China's "atrocities" against humans.

I may be a bit distorted in my view, but I see it more like East Germany during the cold war. There were people always trying to get out of the repression, and being killed just for trying to get out of their little compound so they could be free in their actions and beliefs. We took actions to help them, and eventually communism gave out and Germany was united again.

Personally, if Tibet wants to be their own country, let them. Give up your grasp... I really don't understand why China is so concerned about assimilating their people anyways. Maybe you could explain THAT to me. Who knows, maybe it's a good reason, right?
