What's going on in Oregon with Earthquakes

Today the 24th April IRIS is showing a 4 quake off Oregon so they are still happening out there but not in swarms at this moment.

I'll keep a check for about two weeks this is how they seem to run.

They are reporting that the hazards map is showing 2 more quake faults in the state of Western Washington.

Today is the 25th of April and when I checked the IRIS map I noticed another quake. When I checked the article section they are writing that Reno had a quake, one article says 4.4 another article says 4.2... yesterday afternoon. It aslo says there was a 4.1 moments earlier.

One police officer said he was feeling 3 an hour in one area and the seismologist says there has been a series of quakes under 4. equaling 30 over a 2 hour period with 7 registering at 2.4 and above.

They are saying aftershocks should occur for several days.

I watch the IRIS map and the USA is usually completely empty because they don't list quakes smaller then 4 on the map but if you look at it the map is a mess, I have never seen this in the many years I have observed it.

Something is going on and I can only hope it is with smaller quakes calming something and not a pre-anything to something big.

I'll keep a check for the next week or so and keep posting.

Is there normally that much volcanic activity on the map as well?

I have been watching the Volcanoes also. Now it seems that there are evacuations in Hawaii from the fumes I believe.

All this doesn't add up???

Now I am surely confused and maybe someone can help me here.

As you can see it is showing a new quake in the mid-west and if you put your cursor on that you will see it tells of the quake.

It basically says as follows: Mag. 4.2 25 APR-2008 17:30:58 Southern Indiana

I looked for an article but there is nothing yet written about it.

It is 3:10 here in PA and I know there is a time difference of either 1 or 2 hours. WOULDN'T THE TIME THAT IS POSTED BE OFF.

I really don't know Martitime Time but wouldn't 17:30:58 be like 5:30:58 EST this evening. Please correct me because if I am right then they are predicting this before it happens.

I see it too...so you aren't seeing things. As to the time zone difference, i just can't help you with that. Someone else will hopefully chime in and tell us the difference in time. Ive been keeping an eye on the oregon swarm which has continued pretty much every day..but yea, you are correct that Indiana seems to have had another earthquake today;a 4.2

Look at the bottom right hand corner of your map. it says the current time so that 4.2 was 2 hours ago. it probably wasn't strong enough for the average person to feel. You have to get up into the 5's for it to be widely felt.

On the USGS site it was downgraded to a 3.7 earthquake. There was also one yesterday in the 2's. earthquake.usgs.gov...

As for feeling it, we did feel the initial 5.2 and subsequent 4.6 and 4.0 aftershocks all the way here in lower Michigan. We have not felt the 2's or 3's though.

Have you noticed how many volcano's are currently erupting? It's insane. Have you guys read this vision by a 17 year old back in 1937 of the "big one".

I have checked and can't believe I would miss anything but I can't find a thing about the quake in the mid-west today from Indiana and I haven't heard anything on the news either.

I have an update with Reno
April 25 SCIENTIST SAY, SMALL INCREASE IN CHANCE OF A BIG QUAKE IN RENO.

They say a swarm of tremblors caused high-rise Casinos to sway, they say more then 125 mostly minor tremblors rattled RenO in a 24 hour period strongest was 4.2 Thur, hundreds of quakes 3.5 and under.

I would say something is up but the mid-west one has me stumped why nothing about it?

I am also concerned about the volcanos but I will be very concerned if quakes begin off the Eastern Atlantic Seaboard and volcanos south of the USA erupting all at the same time

Today April 26, 08 another quake hits the Nevada area. The quake measured 4.9 with aftershocks ranging to 3.5.

Big Earthquake set to strike 100 tremblors Sat.

Reno is urged to prepare for a big earthquake. Seismologist are saying these quakes are unusal because they are smaller earthquakes building in strength. The norm is a larger earthquake followed by smaller quakes

They say they wouldn't be surprised by a 6

Sat. quake located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

On Fox just now they are talking about Reno and a bigger quake could be on its way. As I was looking at the map they had a green box where Reno is and all my mind could see is the green box close to where they are going to build a Nuclear Waste Repository.

I don't know that area so it would be a help from members to ease my feelings. Is the Yucca Mountain area in anyway connected to the Sierra Mountain.

My concern is this:

From what I have read the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste location "hasn't" been build yet it is still in the works supposedly. Paper work and everything seems to have moved on okay.

What if and this is only a what if:

What if our government already built at this location and have stuff stored there?

From what I read this project isn't supposed to be done for at least a decade but just "WHAT IF" I think that area needs to be looked at again for storage of Nuclear waste, especially with all these quakes happening in that general area.

I'm begginning to worry here in So Calif,I've noticed the cats acting very strangely,and I notice they have been sleeping next to door openings,maybe it's a premonition,I tend to follow animals then some of these psyeudo geologists

Fox was telling of the fires also happening in the Sierra Madre Mountains in California.

Unfortunately I don't know your areas out there but if your cats/animals are reacting they are acting from instincts I would think.

I suggest you closely watch them and how they react. It could be the wildfires they sense or even earth movement.

We need member in these areas to report about there pets reactions if/when they start to happen.

Maybe you can answer this for me.

On one segment I hear it not the start of fire season yet then at another time I hear its started early. What's up with that?

Fox just had a seismologist on and they are telling people to be prepared for a bigger one he said and I was a little shocked that it could be a little upwards of a 7 but thinks it would be more near a 6.???????

I hope any members of ATS have a talk with all there family and makes plans such as meeting areas and supplies. People need to talk with there kids in a careful way.

Monday April 28th

Fox news was just reporting that Seismologist are warning people about a big quake could hit Reno at any time.

There was a man on that said he has moved his family to another location and the people in his neighborhood are preparing there homes and helping there neighbors and the pets and many are moving out to another location for awhile.

He said he could feel the small quakes during the night and everyone in his neighborbood is scared.

edit to add: The man said his pet is sensing the quakes and alerts him when one is going to happen.

Northern California had an earthquake 5.3 at 3:03:03

Haven't heard anything on Fox news yet.

Hit: Mountain Region 11 miles S.E. of Willow Creek in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, on an unmapped fault.
