Something is definately flying in the skies above central Alabama and it is Not a plane.

Again, I went walking tonight, as I do three of four nights a week for exercise and I'm almost at the bottom of my street (it's on a hill) and as I'm looking at the neighbors brush pile in the gutter, I see this bright "star" between the trees' silhouettes.

It looks like its moving, so I stop, and I see this bright white object moving behind the tree line. I don't see any FAA flashing light, no jet engine noise, so I jog down the street to see it past the trees.

I get to the bottom of my street, following it...I get my cell phone and take three pictures of it. I deleted the first picture by accident, I saved the other two. But, you can't see the object in the two pictures, yet I could look up and see the gliding object still with the naked eye. It's just that cell phone cameras are crappy (mine's the Razr/Motorola). There's seems to be a spec where I remember seeing its location, but that could just me being to optimistic.

>This makes the 3rd time this year so far that I've seen this object. Each one has the same characteristics:

1) Looks like a bright white moving star
2) There are no flashing FAA lights
3) There is no sound
4) Its flying at a low altitude (1/2 the distance of planes)
5) It's gliding, not flying fast like planes or jets.

This April sighting is also similiar to my January sighting in that both were flying in the same direction, heading towards the same tree line.

Another thing that I found odd/intriguing about my January sighting is that two weeks after I saw it, I saw a helicopter make 3 passes over this same area, at night, looking for something. The circling helicopter could and is likely to be coincidence, but what would be the reason for a helicopter to be circling around the same small area? A fugitive? At night, not likely. Helicopter searches are expensive with the cost of pilot and gas...I wonder what the return was?

my March 27, 2008 UFO sighting

my January 7, 2008 UFO sighting

>ATS member NateNute, saw the same object the next night (March sightings) in the same, Jefferson County/Birmingham area around the same, 8pm Central time. He posted this topic on it:

Start jogging with your camcorder, seriously.... i think that you'd have something very interesting next time

decent pic, i'd like to see what others do with a zoom effect on that object.

btw: did you use zoom on the razr?

I don't have a camcorder...but I am going to start taking my digital camera. It's a Sony, 6 megapixel and does have a night mode I'll leave it set on.

I forgot to comment that I saw this April sighting at 7:45 pm Central time...I wait to go walking right after it gets dark because its cooler out.

So far, I've seen this moving star object 3 times this year, another member on here saw the same (in March)...This thing has me intrigued. Something is flying around here silently.

Interesting that you should post this. I myself live in central Alabama (Helena) and was out last night (Saturday night) in by backyard when I noticed what appeared to be a star that seemed to be lower than all the other stars. It was stationary from my viewpoint, but it caught my attention enough for me to get my binoculars (which didn't really help at all), but never before has something struck me enough to actually go get them. After standing out there for a few minutes I had to go back inside and ended up getting sidetracked for a few minutes. Later on I remembered to walk back out and see if it was a star. Well, of course it was gone! I am still mad at myself for not standing out there longer because I would like to know how it left (as in the acceleration at which it moved).

I was originally just going to keep this to myself (my girlfriend just thinks I'm crazy when I talk about such stuff), but happened to check ATS tonight and saw "Another Alabama sighting". Just curious how close you would be to my location or if we might have seen the same thing (I know it's a slim chance). Anyway, I'm one of those people who are completely fascinated by these things and what I saw was maybe the most interesting thing I've seen yet, even thought it could have been nothing.

Sounds like the same object...including you, that makes three witnesses that have come forward, all on ATS.

There has to be many more who have also seen it over central Alabama but keep it to themselves. Think of how many others are outside at that time of night, walking, jogging, talking on a phone, or grilling who saw it.

I'll be taking my Sony camera from now on because my cell phone camera doesn't pick up much.

So now it has been four days since my last post, but something surprising just happened, and before I get into it I would like for someone to at least try to explain something reasonable that this could be and maybe I am making this out to be more than it is.
The first time I noticed this it was positioned above my neighbors house across the street. Not directly above but very high, the house was just a point of reference. It was in the same spot for a very long time and when I went back outside about an hour later it was gone. Next night the same thing at a different time and disappeared sometime later. Night three nothing at all, at any time while I was awake did I see this shimmering object (red, blue, green, white, ect..). I convinced my self I must be crazy. Just a few minutes ago went back outside. Same "object" in a completely different location. Point of reference was along the roof line of my neighbor directly next door ( I hope this is making sense). I watched the object for about five minutes and had to run inside for about ten minutes; came out and it was about halfway down the roof line and slowly flashing in and out of sight. Eventually it just disappeared instantly and has not been seen since.
Now I know what a plane looks like, I wasn't born yesterday and actually had a plane fly across the sky that I could look at through my trusty binoculars (that still didn't help at all). I was not a plane. If someone has a rational reason for what this could be let me know I don't want to jump to conclusions.
No pictures, it was too low and I don't want to be flashing pictures all over my neighborhood. I don't need my neighbors thinking I am some creepy neighbor.

I'm not sure what you saw, but, objects that are so far away can be dismissed as matter of perspective at different times, planes, satellites, etc...I'm not discounting what you saw, it's just that when questionable objects are far away, they are more explainable...identifiable.

What I've seen 3 times this year was much closer, lower altitude, noiseless and no flashing lights...the hallmark characteristics of an object that is unidentifiable and fascinating.

I've taken my camera with me and am waiting for the next similiar situation...it may take weeks or months, at least I will be ready this time. It's frustrating to see something like that and only have a fading memory to bear it.

Vault, I'm not sure what you're seeing...My advice is to have a camera nearby to snap a picture or two the next time..something to post up, share, to hold in your hands, document.

i thought i was the only one in alabama to see something strange, however i am in north alabama. several nights i walked outside of the warehouse where i work and i noticed a round light in the sky, it was only there long enough for me to think to yell for someone else to come see it, then that fast it just zipped away, almost looked like a roman candle going off, one shot of course but it was stationary for a few seconds. it appeared to be the size of a hot air balloon but there was not really anything to reference it to,and distance as it was open fields all around and black dark. it happened so fast i really could not tell if it was miles away or really close.

I live about 15 min from the Alabama state line, near Centre/Cedar Bluff, but in Georgia. A few nights ago me and my hunny saw a bright light that seemed to be twinkling, we were watching it because it was unusually large for a star or planet, and it was just sitting there, all the sudden it began to move forward. No sound. It passed over the house, and you couldn't see it anymore. Tonight we noticed the same light in the sky, in the same area, this time it moved upward, and to the left, but it was the same thing, a single bright white light.

edit= add info

I would like to add that I have seen the spacestation fly over a couple of times now, I try to make sure I know when it will be viewable, what we saw was definately not the spacestation.

Damn...its nice to see that there are others observing a strange, star-like object traversing the skies of Alabama.

I hope to capture what I've seen again on camera...

I'm usually the only one in my neighborhood walking at night for exercise, so, when this moving star-like object glides over, I feel awestruck and anxiouse to be the only one to see it.

The second time I saw it, there were two neighbors outside at the time...One was in their driveway coming home. The other, was some young guy working on his ancient/classic Ford Bronco. The moment was surreal...this large, bright star was just gliding above the neighborhood as these neighbors were oblivious to it passing over. Part of me wanted to say, hey, do you see that. But, by the time I figured it would take to run up to either one and say...Do you see that? What does that look like to you? It would be almost out of sight...garnering a mundane plane or shooting star reply.

Shooting stars are Very fast...Instantaneous.

The objects I've seen this year just glide by, taking its time...with no engine noise whatsoever...no FAA lights flashing.

I hope to get a decent picture of it soon...

Do you have a link to the spacestation passby schedule?

Check the time and pay attention to North & South when you see it next. I'm curious since I'm in the middle of most of you guys who have seen it.

Here ya go! : spaceflight.nasa.gov...

Enjoy. It only takes moments to pass by, but I find it exciting each time, it moves so fast and seems like it is jerking to the left and right. Hope you catch it next time!

I am very glad i found this thread.... it was april 13th when me and a friend saw what u r descibing. it was kinda late in the evening and it stood still like a really bright star... at the time a commercial airplane was passing by. after the plane moved by the light started moving and it was low in our atmosphere almost like the plane that flew under it,but it made no sound at all. when it flew away it didnt fly over the horizon, it just went straight out in a east south east direction, never went over the horizon just a straight shot torwards space. it also seemed to get brighter as it flew away almost like it was pushing throught the earths atmosphere. then it seemed to just fade out like turning the dimmer switch down on your lights inside.again this was sunday april 13... im sure that friend will add to this post... and we both live in the montgomery al. area... i wish we had our cameras out

edited to respell and give better explanation

I saw the same object as the OP on the same date as the original post.
The above poster TJ and I were ouside of my prattville home around 10:30 or so to smoke a cig. I have a habbit of looking up while oustide and have been an intrested viewer or the night sky since I recieved my first telescope at age 8. I am very familiar with the stars I have been looking at in my night sky at this location for the last 2 years.

Anyways it was very clear outside with a big bright moon had a nice light halo. Then I notice another very bright object in the sky with an orangish huge that was really another distinguishing feture from the other heavenly bodies. In fact the object started to get bright enought to have it's own light halo. At that point it started to move. It wasnt at that high of an altitude about the hight of most militarty planes that fligh in this area. (Maxwell AF base a few miles away) It moved quickly acrost the sky from west to east and either "blinked out" or moved into the atmosphere. I too have seen planes sats and spacestation. I dont care what anyone says that was defanatly non of the above.

I live at the very bottom of Al. and I have seen those things for awhile here. There will be three of them just above the trees in the woods and they slowly move around but will stay in the area they are in. I have noticed that one started leaving the area and going across the sky and out of sight, and one had replaced it. It had slowly come out few minutes before and I assumed, took his place. I was thinking they belong to govt. military projects. Those silent (or not silent) flashing light planes that are real low and fly in circles sometimes are uavs (just a guess but Ft. Rucker is one of bases that has the UAV). I have tried to figure out what they could be doing but it never makes any sense is to why they are here every night . They don't need to be watching anyone around here that much or for that long. It's got to be some military project and that's enough to worry about . A govt. military project, that is.

what butters30 and I saw that night didnt flicker or twinkle or flash... just a constant bright light. bright enough to have it own halo, and it didnt wabble around or wiggle either. it flew a very straight and direct path.

What a picture! I swear it, when I zoomed it to 200 and looked with a magnifying glass, it seems like I see the small things all around it, move. Anyone else see anything moving in that pic? If so, how is that??

Possibly 3 sources of light in one craft.

The beams are probably effects from a bright light.
