GOP Strategist: Rice eyeing VP spot on ticket

WASHINGTON, April 6 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has exhibited interest in becoming John McCain's vice presidential running mate, a Republican strategist says.

Dan Senor revealed during Sunday's edition of ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that Rice has been seeking support to be considered for the No. 2 spot on the Republican ticket this fall.

"Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this," Senor said.

I'm voting Democratic, but even I think Condoleezza Rice would be a good choice for VP. She's well known and respected, with the added plus of being a woman. The only drawback would be her close association with Bush, which might not go in her favor.

Politics is a strange business, but I'm not buying this.

I've seen politicians deny other political ambitions, only to start running for another office just as soon as they are elected to another stepping stone office.

Bill Richardson and Hillary Clinton come immediately to mind.

However, Rice is not really a politician. She's a foreign policy expert with an academic background.

I believe her when she says that when January rolls around, she's going back to California.

Personally, I think she'd be a good VP, but McCain, as some have already noted, will probably not be looking to the Bush administration for a running mate.
