Computers to merge with humans

news.bbc.co.uk

The purrfect companion? Computers designed to bring man and machine closer than ever

By 2020 the terms "interface" and "user" will be obsolete as computers merge ever closer with humans.

It is one prediction in a Microsoft-backed report drawn from the discussions of 45 academics from the fields of computing, science, sociology and psychology.

I almost wonder if twenty years from now a whole new class of society and humanity emerges among the elite. Something like cybernetic transhumanists. These kind of advances, such as neural interfaces or neuroprosthetics arn't really for the average person. Were talking about hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars in terms of costs per person. So I'm quite cynical about any so called mass merger like this especially based on growing usage of mobile phones in the Third World.

But I thought the world was supposed to end in 2012 or something......

Nevermind......

The BBC can't even predict the weather accurately for the next day.....and now they're predicting stuff for 2020......

Heck any fan of Ghost in the Shell saw the Internet as it is now way back in the early 1990s. This is just the continuation of Masamune Shirow's genius foresight. People have had organ replacement implants hacked into already, its only a matter of time before people's minds and memories get hacked into after neural interface technology is mass produced.

Ghost in the Shell SAC and 2nd Gig were awesome shows
and even had awesome games to go with. Anyway I feel like that may be distracting from the point at hand =/.

Anyway weren't there other topics that basically stated Humans would be able to marry and have sex with robots by 2050. So I think we saw that something was coming in the works soon enough
.

And for those who want a link to my source/thread that I was looking at here it is:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Too bad I'll be 61 at that time
I hope there will be a way or something that will allow the human body to sustain itself forever until you get tired of seeing the same thing.

Reminds me of Ray Kurzweil's singularity theory... he believes the current generation of humans will be "immortal" because our memories will be backed up into machines thus allowing us to live forever.

His theory also incorporates a law of accelerating development, of which there is a great graph on wikipedia.
