You want to know why other countries did not side with us? France, Germany, and Russia were in bed with Saddam and had much to lose if he were ousted. Esp. France; they had the big oil contracts. Now that we went in and cleaned Saddam out, they are whning that they want a piece of the pie. But they were not willing to support out effort with troops. I say, screw 'em.

Wouldn't you think the US administration would exploit some of this information if it was true? I would think there would at least be a CNN piece on links between Saddam and France, besides, we're the ones who were pissed at the dollar to euro thing and I believe we had some rather large contracts in the region too.

How come some people treat France, and Germany too I suppose, with such disgust. It's a bit strange to me.

Umm...Colonel, I thought 1984 was an anti-socialism/communism book. The idea was for the countries to go to communism, but to do so they had to pass through socialism, wherein the government has control of everything, (absolute power) and they turned into an authoritarian power. And they weren't racist, quite the opposite.

Besides, there is nothing wrong with moderation in government. There cannot be too much left-wing, and there cannot be too much right-wing.

I don't know that they have to "exploit" the information, but it has been a well known fact that France had the big oil field contracts now held by Halliburton. They were getting *very* cheap oil from Iraq before we went in. This is why they tried to block us via the UN. I can very easily point you to some reference material, if you'd like.

Why do some people hate France & Germany so much? Well, France is supposed to be our ally, but they do not act like it. For example, after the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing carried out by Libyan terrorists, we (US & UK) decided to launch airstrikes in retaliation for Qadaffi not cooperating with turning over the guilty parties. So, we flew from air bases in UK, but France would not allow us to fly over their air space, adding hours and fatigue to pilots. So we "accidentally" dropped a bomb on the French Embassy in Libya. They deserved it, IMO.

As far as Russia, well Saddam was getting his SCUD missles from them, among other weapons.

Germany once was a much better ally before the current chancellor, who has personally stated his hatred for the US.
