NEW YORK (AP) -- A man who threw his girlfriend's dog off her 23rd-floor balcony was sentenced Thursday to 12 years in prison for animal cruelty and other charges related to stalking the woman.

Why don't they just dress him in a dog suit and then drop him... Man, why'd he bring a poor elderly animal into a fight between him and his girlfriend?

twelve years even. i wish some of the judges and sentencing bodies here in South Dakota would get a clue. just a couple weeks ago a woman who killed two children got two 8 year senteces that are to be served concurently so she's probably already elegible for parole. This guy got what he deserved, almost.

Also, with sentences. A person caught with less than a quarter of marijuana will spend more time in jail then a multi murder. A multi murder may get life, shortest life less than 5 years. Longest is still going on. But still, a woman killed two kids and only got eight? Needs to get the judge from Clevland. He sentanced a multi rapist to over 500 years, parole after 200 if he behaved. Get him to SD.

It does bring up the question of fair judement.Aperson kills another person and gets 5years,but kill a dog and you get 12 years. Go figure.

oh i forgot about this twist to the woman who killed them kids. the same judge gave a man convicted for having Kiddy porn on his computer 60 yrs. now i'm not advocating kiddy porn but come on 8 yrs for killing two children, compared to 60 yrs for looking at naked children. again kiddy porn is not a good thing but how about equal punishment for the crime commited?

It's a nightmare ! This guy is crazy, of course. But 12 years for a dog, DAMN !

Why not the death sentence ???????????

Some peoples kills other peoples ( even kids ), and they stay free. But for a dog, you are 12 years sentenced !

All this fuss over a dog. Hell, its just an animal whos place on earth is to serve man or to serve as a food source.
I ate dog in Korea and it was pretty tasty, although it was a bit stringy.
Now I don't agree with what he did, foolish thing to do and he should be punished but maybe a year in the dog kennels would have served as a better punishment.

Yes, and like trees are lifeform also, put in jail all the woodcutters ( lumberjacks ? ).

Actually..he got 10 years for Stalking the girl friend and 2 years for throwing the pup..the judge did that so that some idiot attorny could not take it to appeals court saying 12 for a dog is stupid..pretty smart judge if yo ask me..

You know I'm all for the Death Penalty...but there is this AWESOME STORY, not sure what it is called...that REALLY makes you think.

Anyways...the basic plot of the story is this:

Two men are debating whether it is better to just kill someone, or to imprison them for their whole life. One of the guys was very wealthy or something, and betted that serving a life sentence was NOT as bad as just being put to death, his reward if he survived would be A LOT of money, he could leave at any time however.

So he goes through his ordeal, being imprisoned in some room of his own house, and basically it comes down to like the literal last year or so of the agreed term of time, which was like 30 years, and the only real human contact he had was his friend coming by to feed him and such. Like normal prison.

And it was like one more year and he caved and just left, not getting the money or anything, and when he wandered the streets and all everything was SOOO different, and his house was all crumbly and destroyed and such.

Anyone else read this story? I'm sure I'm missing some points due to lack of full rememberance, so if anyone can remember it even better feel free to tell the story

I think the 12 year sentence is too harsh, I'd probably sentence him to eating a raw dog having to skin it and de-fur it and everything, rather than 12 years of his life wasted. But it does say that he did some other stuff, so that's probably where the 12 years is coming from.
