The BBC is to screen a new drama about the final week in the life of Jesus Christ which appears to exonerate Judas and Pontius Pilate.

Producers of The Passion have portrayed the men in a sympathetic light because they believe they have been “very harshly judged” by history.

I must admit I havent followed the recent revelations about Judas. From my understanding,(correct me if Im wrong) Judas handed Jesus to the Roman authorities for 30 pieces of silver, an act which directly resulted in Jesus crucifixion, Judas became irredeemable the only disciple who could not be saved by redemption.

according to the Vatican a translation made by the National Geographic Societ the Gospel of Judas appears to interpret Judas's act not as betrayal, but rather as an act of obedience to the instructions of Jesus.

So I will assume that BBC interpetation is factual.

Well I don't think Judas is burning in hell, because he had to do what he did in order for prophesy to be fulfilled, but at the same time I don't think the GoJ is reliable because it was written way after the mainstream gospels.

I would disagree with you on the part about Judas's betrayal. I think Jesus said it would have been better for him if he hadn't been born. I've got to agree about the gospel of Judas though.

Yea but back then, 30 pieces of silver wasn't bad for one days work.

As for whether Judas was exonerated or not, I really don't think it's the BBC's place to make that call. I'm pretty sure that when he passed from this world and found himself in front of those pearly gates he was saying to himself, "AWE CRAP!!!!!"

I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I really am. I'm not a Christian and I find these stories somewhat, well, funny. Still,

Can you imagine that poor guy dying and there on the right hand side of the God almighty is Jesus, looking really ticked off.

edit for spelling.

Modern Mass Media makes me sick

First they try to deny the divinity of Christ.

Second they try to deny his resurection.

Third they try to convince people that he married and bore children.

They have gone as far as to portray him in inaproppriate situations with the disciples.

And now Judas is exonerated by the BBC?.

Jesus Christ is my lord and saviour and although I`m not a good christian
the BBC profoundly offends me!.

This is not new news. If one says that Judas acted in accordance with God's will, and did bad for good (and is thus innocent) then people can say "I did that because God allowed me - thus he must want me to do it."

So, as always, people chip away at the concept of wrong and right.

Jesus knew Judas would betray him, but that did not abrogate Judas' own will; Judas had a desire (to get money) and that desire gave birth to a sin.

30 pieces of silver in Jerusalem back then was enough to buy a pretty good slave, and a good slave was equivalent to a family car today, roughly $26,000 dollars. So earning that in one day was tempting.

Peace,

KAI

The fact of the matter still is, that none of us were alive back then. All we have are books which may or may not have existed back then either.

To each his own. And if you're offended, thats life....
