Hmm...so would that be called a quail or a wow? hahaha..ok bad sense of humour! I'm wondering what on earth they're thinking. Maybe the whale will blow milk out of it's spout or something. There's so many other things that could have a good use being cross bred.

In case you may have forgotten the link, here's one.

Japan:"strange and esoteric breeding program"

It looks like nobody else understand why they are doing it.

I suspect they're trying to find a number of ways to surreptitiously harvest these whales.

As you know some people have a penchant for exotic seafoods and organ meats.

If they're coming in from a variety of sources, then if the International community shuts that down they have another 'quasi-legal' source for the meat or organs.

Just a guess. HTH.

I just dont understand how a whale and cow can be crossed at all; this is assuming it would have a normal life, on land? in the sea? probably in a cage with a catheter like most of the animals bred for such uses.

Clearly they are studying on the evolution of the whales, since they are descendants of land-living mammals.

If it seems to work, I will me amazed!

I have no idea how the plan on doing this!

I bet that's taking a lot of sake!
There's only one thing worse than getting drunk and waking up next to a cow.
Waking up next to a big fat whale.

...hahaha APC!

I still wonder what type of whale, or whale's they are trying to crossbreed!
Surely the are'nt trying a Blue Whale, maybe a killer whale, or Beluga!
I would stick with the smaller ones, if I were them!

[sarcasm] So...basically they're creating Manatees, way to go be original Japan!! [/sarcasm]

Yeah I'm not going to lie, that is a pretty pointless scientific "research." Maybe it'll bring out the best out of both at the dining table. I mean serious I see no other purpose for cross-breeding to random animal at totally different spectrum.

I think they could use the resources to produce stem cells through retro-processes. (Yes its possible to revert a normal cell into a stem cell, but its risky, the cell can become cancerous.)
