CITY authorities in Munich, southern Germany, have closed down a kindergarten with immediate effect after discovering it was run by the Church of Scientology, the municipality said overnight

Applaud Germany! Keep railing against this evil cult! The people of Germany know all about exploitation . This is why they see Scientology for what it is , and will not tolerate it.

Even though I agree that scientology is most certainly a cult and shouldn't be permitted to teach children...shouldn't the parents have the right to enroll their kids in a scientology kindergarten if they wish? How is this really any different from the common practice in the US of sending kids to private catholic/christian school?

That depends. If the kindergarden was clearly labelled as a scientology-kindergarden, the authorities are WRONG in closing it. If however, it was a covert operation, meaning not clearly labelled as a scientology kindergarden, then the authorities are RIGHT in closing it.

Of course the "news" article wont tell us what is the case. Poor journalism there.

It was perfectly legal, because the Church of Scientology is classified as a criminal organization in Germany--they've repeatedly attempted to screw with elections, threaten and blackmail politicians, and act in a generally skeezy manner. They want political power more than anything--because once they have that, they can start pushing for legislation that might cripple their opponents, Anonymous and otherwise.

If it was indeed covert, then yes, it is wrong. But if not, then it is the countries prejudice against a legit religion.

Of course too many people bash on Scientology as it is. I'm not saying it is a good religion, nor do I believe what it teaches is correct. But who am I to bash upon the beliefs of another person? What's next? Bashing Jediism? Good luck getting one of us angry.
