It'll take a lot more for McCain to get in then a few pipe bombs I think.
Especially now with a Bush endorsement.

Anyone have anymore information on the "devices" used. The answer to that could be a good indicator.

I agree and disagree. Yes, we have gotten collectively lazy as the public in regards to terrorism. Mainly due to the fact that no major plots have actually come to fruition by AQ and their groupies. Our lack of focus will come back to haunt us should our Govt. officials take the same attitude. AQ is a patient group, then know eventually we will let our guard down, Americans can't stay focused on anything for very long sadly.

I disagree that homegrown terror plots will take the place of the threat AQ poses however. No offense, but who really cares that a lone person throws a pipe bomb in some building, especially in the middle of the night so it won't cause casualties, that's a wannabe pansy terrorist to me. You won't see homegrown groups plotting to hit for mass casualties and TV exposure like AQ tries to.

Hey gang-

I work about 4 blocks from there and it is pretty nuts. It seems like this was just some whack job with a little too much black powder, but who knows?

The police are saying that the blast wasn't that strong and probably wouldn't have killed any one.

Terrorism (by the radical extremists out to get us definition)? Maybe. Someone who wanted some attention? Probably.

Yet, I rode the train into work today like any other day and will ride the train home the same. I have reached the point where I refuse to live in fear. I was here for 911, for the anthrax, for the blackouts, the blizzards and the giant bursting steam line. I worked near Madison Square Garden during the 04 elections and witnessed the true fear machine in full effect. Franky- I am sick of it.

New York has been Fear Ground Zero for so long now - that either I am numb to it or have reached the inevitable conclusion what will happen will happen.

I guess the so called terrorist was a former army guy or a relative of a fallen army guy, whose brother may killed in Iraq or Afghanistan and presumably signed up to his hell journey right here (If the office was a Marine recruit office, change the army to marine above.). It surely was an NY resident, because he used bicycle at night, instead of a car. Possibility: he just came home from the front or his relative simply died or suffered great injury not so much ago. And after it's surely a home made explosive, the guy surely has demo training, hence has at least a basic military training.

Second option, he has been rejected by this recruit office not so much ago (1-2 week period).

Oh. And the guy surely lives close by, few blocks away from the territory. It's too risky to ride a bike to long distance to his safe house, home.

F.B.I. Here are your clues. Mystery solved. Hurray. Let's start your investigation.

Here's a thought..

Seeing how it's been a few hours since this massive attack (er.. an M-80 thrown through the doorway by a terrorist-on-a-bike), I guess we can expect the building to collapse any minute now.

Hmm, that seems a far larger explosion than what has been reported.

Well, life is 'as normal' here in midtown today. Other than the immediate area surrounding the incident there is no increased police presence, no gaggle of people running around yelling that the sky is falling. If it's fear mongering they chose the wrong town.

An incident like this is an inconvenience.

Look at the similarities between this and the issue at the British embassy a little bit further uptown. In that incident someone tossed a small explosive device into a potted plant outside the embassy. Interestingly enough, that one also took place in the middle of the night.

This morning's target was a military recruiting center which has been located in the middle of Times Square for as long as I can remember. Who knows what the motives were, but it would be good to keep in mind the rising amount of anti-military sentiment in this country now, as in Berkeley CA.

Fearmongering... well, frankly for most New Yorkers who live and work here like I do the main questions were "i wonder what that's all about" and "is this going to delay my trip to work this morning". For me the first answer is unknown and the second is no. Life in midtown Manhattan is running just fine at the moment.

A funny thing about the media is that they only interview a particular type of person. When we were getting hit by those Anthrax attacks the reporters would wait outside the office buildings being evacuated to interview people as they were leaving. If the person responded rationally they would abruptly cut off the interview and say "we can't use this". If the person responded hysterically: JACKPOT. RATINGS. Scared people glued to their TV sets wanting to find out when all of Manhattan is going to implode!

The vast majority of us aren't biting. I'm sure there'll be plenty of interviews with people on tv about how horrible this is and how scared they are. Ah well.

In my opinion this was nothing more then some idiot who is upset with Bush and the suits in DC....they are against the WAR and like most people these days who belong to orginizations like ELF, GREENPEACE, Etc..they aren't very bright and are usually HUGE hypocrites.

ELF...burns down homes to save the forrest/enviroment yet they go home at night to their STICK BUILT houses/apartments.

GREENPEACE...they run down boats/ships to complain about gas and oil spills/use etc...yet they all drive cars and oops..use BOATS with engines that use gas and oil for their protests.

Now we have a WAR protestor using bombs/violence on the wrong people to make their point. Hey Dumb---, go throw the bomb at the White House...or the Capital. THATS where your hate/protest needs to be directed.

I have never had a problem with people wanting to protest, or wanting to stand up for something...but when you decide to, make sure you:

-FULLY KNOW what your protesting/wanting to change
-DO NOT protest/demand things that your already doing yourself
-THINK before you act out and make sure your actions are directed to the people who your really pissed off at, not the middle man

It is now bieng reported that it is similar to the British consulate and the Mexican consulate that were 'attacked' within the last few years. An individual on a bike was seen in these instances also and they were also 'planted' around the same time in the other attacks.

Could this be a serial bomber ala Ted K? the other 'attacks' used fake grenades and now he is moving up to something with a little more bang.

I don't know about liberal terrorism. Seems we have the utopian "liberal" society now. High taxes, Welfare State, No Personal Responsibility, State power spreading out beyond our borders to control everyone.

Maybe "Conservative" terrorists making a statement about the epic spending or balooning deficit or the War of Aggression on a foriegn state or the Increased size and scope of the Federal Government since GWB came into office.

Besides - I didn't think liberals even knew HOW to blow things up, they just knew how to raise taxes and spend money.

I still can't agree with calling this terrorism in any form. If it is, it's strictly to cause potential recruits to be afraid to enter the office. A terrorist attack would be a bomb on a subway or in a busy restaurant. A hit against a military point of presence is a very specific act of war. Or simple vandalism. Not terror.

The fascists will try with all their might to twist this and spread fear. Resist.

Liberals are good in how to lie to people. They're rather hiring someone up to do this. I know, because we have enough liberals in our country, whose are good in stealing, lieing, taking no responsibility and they're also intend to plunder our country. Now here comes the trick on 9th March, because we will have a nice vote. And if everything goes fine, the entire Liberal group, accompanied with the "socialist magicians", they will be wiped out from the parliament. I would suggest to do the same in the White House. Liberals are always serving one country, regardless where they're. Israel. Socialists are the same in this matter. Well. At least here in Hungary.

I have no idea how this became a conversation about Liberals and Conservatives but I'd like to politely remind all members to read the title of a thread before you post in it. In this case it's a discussion about an incident in New York, not a political debate.

Thank you.

so attacking a military recruiting office is serving Israel? How? Our military is fighting in the middle east, fighting everyone BUT Israel. If anything, we're over there protecting Israel so why blow up a recruiting office?
