A GERMAN tourist has spent a day and a half chipping spraypaint off a world famous glacier after he was caught red-handed defacing the natural wonder.

Police in New Zealand said English tourists photographed 28-year-old Munich man Jan Philip Scharbert as he tagged rock walls and even the ice at Franz Josef Glacier on the South Island's west coast last Thursday.

Maybe this story doesn't rate on the news scale but I guess I read it and just *sighed. This is a story that makes you go 'urgh!'

What is wrong with people?

Mr Gurney said it took Scharbert a day and a half to clean up his handiwork, during which time he was abused by passing glacier guides and tourists

Fantastic though, being made to clean it up whilst being abused and ridiculed for the small moron he is.

Pathetic!

Good I am glad that they made him clean up his stupidity. Glaciers are precious things. Rivers of ice that flow for centuries before melting. The damage he could have done would have been nearly permanent. While being on a small scale the pollution he caused to the ice sheet and the rock face should not be tolerated.

While on the list of crimes and punishment I think he got just what he deserved. Ridicule and abuse while serving out his punishment. A simple case of the punishment does fit the crime.
