Not sure where to stick this, so please move it to wherever it feels most at home.

My girlfriend who lives in Leeds, W, Yorkshire has just phoned me up sounding shaken. She said that her whole house has just shook, that furniture was moving and it felt like an earth quake.

Lots of neighbours then came rushing out and had felt the same.

I phoned the police who were in Wakefield, a few miles away and said they had experienced it too......as had the hundreds of callers that were ringing them at that moment.

Anyone any idea what this could be? Never heard of earth tremors in Yorkshire.

Not sure how England is laid out but a lot of other people are on some sites are saying they felt stuff to and have different city names then the ones you guys posted.

The earth is always up to something it seems, let's just hope this was her reminding the world she is still here and active and not leading to something bigger.

Oh good, I wasn't going mad (my mum and dad both slept through, and looked at me puzzled when I asked them if they felt the house shake...)
There I was, watching Shaun of the Dead (on DVD, can't do with ad breaks) and everything starts wobbling!

Not good for my nerves!

Oh, I'm in South Leeds

Just had it here in Blackpool too, gave everythin a damn good shake and was quite noisy too.

Is it normal for a quake to be felt over such a large expanse???

Watching Sky News now and it looks like I'm the only person in England who didn't feel it.

By the way, I'm in the North East.

Both EMSC and USGS now says it was a magnitude 4.7. EMSC had it as 5.3 for a few minutes, and then they downgraded to 4.7.
