what is the estimated time the object needs to pass the diameter of the moon? I made some calc. and if the object would pass in one second, then the speed is 1 KM/Second (at 90km altitude) .If the object passes in 0.5 second, we talk about 2km/second and so on. I hope my calc are right

O, if the object is behind the moon and passes in one second then we have the speed of 3500 KM/second at least. However, it could be much closer: an airplane or even a bug that flies in the air (i`v seen UFO videos that were bugs out of focus )

Great find

star and flag!!
What ever the object is, it seems to be traveling at a great velocity. It would be interesting to get some accurate calculations by KNOWLEDGEABLE people in this matter and some pros on photography, before jumping to conclusions. After observing the video many times IMHO we must rule out the bug theory.

Couldn't agree more. I would love for some of our photo/video experts to analyze this.

I just received a message from theyareoutthere, he is working on downloading the original footage...may be past my bedtime though.

This video footage is over 14 minutes long and over 900mb in size. I have had a time getting a free file hosting service to post this large of a file to so I am going to post it to a website of a friend and will send the link after it is done. Right now I have been able to ftp over 150mb of the 900mb. This is going to take a little while.

Interesting...

It doesn't look like any star I've ever seen before, and it seems to move too "slow" for a "shooting star..."

Has there been any mention of this on standard media sources?

It appears to be very large and if it was a comet of relative size, then it would have had to been very large or very far away to be "traveling" that way against the foreground of Luna.

An amazing video nonetheless. Good find.

Ok....I've been a lurker for a while, but never have posted. I saw pretty much the same thing last night during the lunar eclipse. But I saw two objects, one following behind the other. My boyfriend and I were at a park watching the eclipse. It was at about 6:40 pm Pacific time. We live in the Bay Area. He did not witness it. He was messing with the camera. They flew in the same direction as the object in the video.

I don't have any evidence....just putting my two cents in.

I am unsure if anyone has considered / posted this concept before. But has anyone considered it may have been a satellite,in an extremely large orbit? That would seem far more feasible than anything else.

Thanks for going to all this trouble. It certainly behaves like a meteor. Initially I thought it went behind the moon, but reading the thread comments, it could well have passed in front. I look forward to the analysis of the original vid.

what about the meteor that people in the northwest saw the other night? the film was all over cnn... maybe this is the same one? I'm pretty sure that happened on MOnday evening, which is the same evening the OP said he filmed this...

just a thought.

There are only a few visual ways possible to determine whether or not an object actually travels behind, or in front of the Moon. From an Amateur Astronomer's perspective, the only true possibilities at determining the travel of the object would be:

A. During a Lunar Eclipse where the darkened color of the moon would allow you to better discern a contrasting object in relation to the Lunar Surface.

B. If you had a telescope trained on the Moon to the point where a passing object would clearly be visible against the lit Lunar Surface.

This footage is obviously of a well lit Moon, so that only leaves the possibility of a trained telescope zoomed in on the Moon. We obviously do not have such magnification, so the detail is lacking in determining whether or not this object passes within or outside of Lunar Orbit.

The object can just as easily be in Earth's Upper Atmosphere, but it could also be in near space within the Moon's orbit, or farther out just past the Moon. It is so difficult to tell the object's relative distance, but it does behave like a Meteor, and that would suggest entry into Earth's Atmosphere.

Many Lunar observers have witnessed unknown phenomenon, and many sky watchers have seen lights that defy logic, which allows for a relatively easy conclusion that they are in fact propelled craft. This object however travels in a very straightforward manner, and in doing so really allows for no differentiation between a propelled craft, and a naturally propelled object.

I was just about to write something similar TAN but you beat me to it

Anyways, i still think it could be ice, either close to the moon or further away.

Yes. This is the same thing that happened in the STS tether incident video that claimed hundreds of UFOs went behind the tether which was ice particles.

"its teh most undiniable ufo footage evr!!!! LOL OMG WTF" My crust

So if you believers don't want to look like crazy buffoons, PLEASE stop posting to threads and propagating false lunacy that is ridiculous.

This footage has been debunked through and through.

the higher the orbit, the larger the object must be. If we have a sat. orbiting 1000 KM and looks like on Earth that then.. we talk about 1-2 KM diameter sat!

Am I the only one to (again) point out that the first half of the video from YouTube shows a gibbous Moon, and a bright object passing, most likely, in a Near Earth trajectory that happens to be across the bright face of the Moon, from the camera's vantage point? AND, the second half shows the 'fast moving object', but the picture is altered...not only is the Moon 'eclipsed' suddenly with a dark black circle, the rest of the 'sky' is brighter than before?

It really appears to be a chance capture of a meteor burning in the upper atmosphere as someone just happened to be videoing the Moon!! This person, it seems, decided to spoof everyone???

If it glows like a meteor, and burns like a meteor...well, you know the rest......

Actually the tether incident i doubt that being ice particles even if there were ice particles in that vid and they were close to the camera they would have been blurred out and probably not shown as being in the background of the tether itself.

So if you believers don't want to look like crazy buffoons, PLEASE stop posting to threads and propagating false lunacy that is ridiculous.

I think what people believe has really nothing to do with it, more as to what stories they are being fed with.
Ignorance is not a good way to use when "debunking" something/someone.

This footage has been debunked through and through.

Which footage are you speaking of, the tether incident or this footage on this thread?
As i have already mentioned the tether incident i wont go any further with that.
But this footage from this thread has not been explained as far as i know so it's still labeled as 'unknown'.
Unless you have any solid facts that explains what this object is, please do so

I think that has something to with a filtering effect that the uploader used on the video.
It's the same as the first video but this filter has been applied to it.

Damn! Whatever it was, it was large and hauling ass!

Shooting stars have such a quick trajectory that I'd rule that out.

This object traversed so much more considerable distance that this footage will be an instant classic (providing it isn't a fake).

Great find, great clip!

well. if it is behind the moon. and it looks like that. then it is going to be absolutely massive.

as in much larger than the 3 mile ship that has reportedly been seen. I doubt its behind the moon. anyways, I wonder why someone was just filming the moon in static.

screams hoax to me
