Hi,

ATS appears to be working on an "open source ufo reporting database" at a website called isawaufo.org.

I'll be interested to see how this works out.

In particular, I'll be interested in knowing:

(a) What questions are to be asked in relation to each report. This is quite a big, and very complicated, issue. Few of the online reporting websites actually ask several of the most important questions which help determine the cause of a report. Two of the sticky threads on ATS touch on some of the relevant issues, namely How should I report a UFO sighting? (which mentions some of the existing online reporting databases and some of the most important information to be gathered) and If you think you saw a UFO... (which focuses more on offering potential solutions). In fact, the US Air Force's Project Bluebook and the University of Colorado's Condon Report both arranged for some interesting work to be done on the relevant questions - probably more interesting and detailed than that done by most UFO groups when formulating relevant questions...

(b) How much of the data is to be shared on ATS. (In England, there would be considerable privacy and data protection law issues relating to any such sharing).

(c) Whether this database is to be accessable to any group of UFO investigators/researchers to enable follow up investigations (e.g. having a relationship with the MUFON and/or BUFORA networks of field investigators).

(d) Whether this database is to be as fully featured as, and/or compatible with, some of the major existing UFO databases, e.g. UFOCAT or the *U* database.

All the best,

Isaac

Isaac, frankly i have some doubts about the origin of that website;
in the page of The Above Network's websites www.theabovenetwork.com...
it's not listed;
besides, WHOIS data are different from the other ones;
are we sure that it's part of The Above Network?

I just asked Springer and he confirmed it is ATS's.

I think it's neat.

It is ours, it's one of the many projects we have in the queue. We are planning on working that up during the third quarter of this year assuming the "creek doesn't flood".

When we get to that, we will be soliciting the aid of our astute membership you can be sure.

Great points, imho.

I have one . . . high priority . . . request . . . I have tried for years to get the major orgs to collect sightings together in some sort of count that could be graphed.

I've always been given a bunch of noise about how there's no way to do good statistics--even a basic count because the reports are too varied; too irregular; everything from flakey faint to abductions etc. etc. etc. ad very nauseum

I believe (as a PhD with SOME statistical awareness) that the random variables would balance out and that even just a raw count of sightings or a raw count of the 3-5 or whatever major types of sightings

WOULD GIVE US A HEADS-UP when TREND CHANGES began to occur.

I think this could be priceless information.

ATS HIERARCHY--CAN WE !!!!!PLEASE!!!!! make that happen?

I think i have to agree with BO XIAN...
A major ufo reporting site, worldwide, to get a number on how many see what, where and when.

And it would also be interesting to see how much the ufo's differ in design and size.

You should also have a picture or movie submitting 'thingy'

I do think it would be a good idea, but then if it can be done is an entirely different matter.

It would be more than nice to finally view a picture or video siting in it's original clarity rather than some blurred copy that sends up the red flag of disappointment.
But when we finally have mass sitings visable to nearly everyone who looks skyward, it will overwhelm these sites or people will just turn on the news and look out their windows.

I'm looking forward to mass sitings, as long as it's in our worlds favor. But with the continuous claims of CGI, Blue Beam and fraud, it makes it all the harder to believe anything is real and not faked, espcially on video.

I am so looking forward to a museum with actual advanced technologies. I suppose there already are those for the secret elite somehwhere.

Hi BO XIAN,

Have you looked into Project Bluebook Special Report 14, UFOCAT and/or Larry Hatch's *U* database?

I can post details/links relating to each of these if you'd like.

I also have statistics from various other sources, including from the US Air Force and from the Ministry of Defence in the UK.

What sort of data do you want to graph?

All the best,

Isaac

I made some suggestions regarding a similar scenario to the database that's being put together by ATS.... Here's the thread www.abovetopsecret.com... ... for those who might be interested in having a peak.
... Isaac has already kindly posted there and pointed me to this thread.

Strange thing is, I didn't know what the guys were planning or doing... It just seems an obvious direction to take the ATS UFO association.

I think it's a superb idea, and hopefully the beginning of a worldwide central database that everyone can access, and that might become THE worldwide UFO study hub. It's especially useful for those investigating the phenomena obviously, but it could prove equally useful to those who are expert and analysing data and trends. I won't go into the benefits of being able to analyse data relationally within a database (I waffled enough in my own thread about it)

I also hope that all worldwide UFO organisations will consider adding their own databases to it.... Imagine having up to 60 years of UFO investigations and sightings data ALL on the one database... woohoo!!

Thanks for the news Isaac... and to the guys putting it together THE BEST OF LUCK!

Im certainly looking forward to seeing this take off, a worldwide network - bringing everyone together under one roof so to speak can only be a good thing and what a brilliant, well established and credible website/community to host it. This has the potential to bring the heat with disclosure! If i can help in any small way then let me know. All the best. Chaz
