Syria vows to strike back at Israel

www.debka.com

DEBKAfile’s military sources report: Thursday night, Feb. 14, Syrian officials fanned out among Arab broadcasting stations with a warning: Damascus will attack Israel shortly following a decision by Syrian leaders to end its policy of restraint against its territorial violations.

Israeli land, sea, air and homeland defense units were earlier ordered to prepare to defend the country’s northern borders against attacks by Hizballah, including rocket strikes, and Syria. Reinforcements were rushed

Well this is interesting, Can anyone confirm this? Debka sometimes over exaggerates. If this is true, well we are on the verge of a giant mess. Between Kosovo and this, it should be a very interesting weekend.

The Israelis are looking for some payback anyway. Syria would be real stupid to attack a country that has beaten them twice already when they had help from the Egyptians. I hope they bomb Assad's house and send them a big message. I pray the U.S. Government never turns its back on Israel.

More like Syria's looking for payback. Israel keeps invading and violating Syrian airspace, conducting military operations and assassinations within Syria, etc. I think Syria's been pretty restrained.

Of course, "retaliate" translates into "initiate hostility" in Hebrew and American English.

Israel is getting ready to stomp Hammas so they fake the asasination and make Israel look north. Sounds like a set up to me. Just like 2006.

Imo the fact Israel occupies land that it shouldnt means any action taken against them by the occupied is legit and they are the ones at fault for invading and displacing millions. Isreal is basically living on stolen land so I can see why these palestinians and hezbolah are so hateful towards Israel.

This certainly could be a big mess.
My first guess will be this is just a bunch of hot air. The leaders may just be blowing a bunch of wind trying to gain some points in the party or something like that.

Do you realise what you are saying with this? That you agree with more young American soldiers dying in the mid east for wars based on false pretences and faulty evidence to make Israel feel better about itself?

c'mon mate..

If Israel would just pullback to their original borders given to them by the UN after world war 2, alot of this crap would not be going on.....How hard is it to pull back to what was agreed to initially?

Syria was the one who attacked Israel without provocation twice so they do not get their land back and it was Israels land in the first place. Read Roman history about this and you will learn who's land it really is.

I is also a good to note that even if Israel should pull back to origional borders, the charter of Hamas is that they seek the destruction of Israel. So the origional borders would not matter.

Except they would lose a LOT of support if Israel managed to cave in to the demands of, well, every non-Hamas entity in the region by going back to the 1967 borders. Either that or the charter would change very quickly. However, Hamas knows that Israel isn't going to cede anything so long as the United States keeps preventing international law from applying to Israel. So long as the status quo is maintained, the charter stays the same.

I would have to wager the charter would not change even if the borders did change. A charter to call for the destruction if fanaticism, plain and simple. I don't think that is going to change any time soon no matter what happens.

Um you guys seen the news today? The ones who carried out the bombing were palestinians and is considered an inside job.

So the Syrians, Hezbo etc STILL want to attack Israel? Sounds about right with those idiots.

Thats typical terrorists for you. Kind of like the cartoon fiasco where the worst drawings, ones the nutty Imams had spread, were not even in the Danish newspapers.

I can't find much to support the debka article,
but there's a thread concernging Syria here:

Syria threatens war lawsuit against U.S.

DAMASCUS, Syria - Syria plans to sue the U.S. for supplying arms to Israel that later killed Syrians in its 2006 war with Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon, the Syrian foreign minister said Thursday, a day after Washington announced new sanctions against Damascus.

And I found this interesting:

Iran, Syria Probe Mughniyeh Killing

DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Syria and Iran will conduct a joint investigation into the car bombing that killed Imad Mughniyeh, a commander of their Lebanese ally Hezbollah, Iran's state news agency reported Friday.
...
Iran and Hezbollah blamed Israel but the Israelis denied involvement. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah vowed in a eulogy to the slain militant on Thursday that his Shiite guerrilla group would retaliate against Israeli targets anywhere in the world.

Iran is getting involved now.

Hmmmm.......

Syrian security forces have arrested several Palestinians suspects in connection with the assassination of Hizbullah commander Imad Mughniyeh, a Lebanese security source told Reuters on Friday.

The source added that Hizbullah had appointed a successor to Mughniyeh within hours of his death in a car bomb blast in the Syrian capital.

In MY humble opinion, this is a step towards a conflict which will light up the whole of the Middle East. I think that the Powers That Be have decided that it's high time to even this little chess game out, and go ahead with some piece exchanges.

If my assumption is correct, we're about to see a prolonged series of conflicts between Iran, Syria, and Israel. This will usher in a series of events that will undoubtedly lead to the involvement of the US. Why else would we still be in Iraq, right? We're in a very central location, coincidentally between all of the countries that are fighting. We're primed, and ready for the attack. It's all too clear to me what the goal here is.

From here, the projections get hazy... Should be a very closely watched story, in MY humble opinion...
