Information needed on brazilian UFO

Ok ive got a book by Marcus Day called Aliens: Encounters with the unexplained. It basically covers all the well known UFO sightings such as Roswell, Betty and Barney Hill etc. Well theres a very brief mention of a sighting that really caught my intrest. Heres the exact quote from the book.

Joao Pessoa, Brazil 16th October 1996

A giant rectangular ufo was spotted by many witnesses over Northern Brazil, which was described as being as long as a 20 storey building. It was seen in 10 other cities in the surrounding area causing over 300 people to flee in panic.


Now I have never heard of a ufo sighting causing as many people to flee as this one which makes it pretty intresting imo. Ive checked numerus websites and surprisingly haven't found any other mention of this. So if any members have any information on this that would be awesome.

On Wednesday night, October 16, 1996, a gigantic rectangular
UFO appeared over the city of Joao Pessoa (population 498,000)
in northern Brazil, causing over 300 residents to flee in panic.
Joao Pessoa is the capital of Paraiba, a small state in the Sertao
(Northeast) on Brazil's South Atlantic coast.
The OVNI (Portuguese acronym for UFO) flew at an estimated
altitude of 3,000 meters (11,000 feet). Witnesses described it as
an object "as long as a twenty-story building (72 meters or 240 feet)."
Late-night diners on the Avenida Rui Carneiro and the Rua Almeida
Barretto had a clear view of the rectangular UFO, which was also
seen in ten other cities of Paraiba, including Patos, 176 kilometers
(110 miles) west of Joao Pessoa. (See the Brazilian newspaper
