Do you believe there are Dis-Information Agents on ATS?

Has anyone here ever admitted publicly or privately to having ever been one here or elsewhere?

I'm fairly new here. Not sure if this has been posted before.

Your thoughts.

Yes, definitely. You can usually tell which ones they are. There are persistent with debunking every detail of the most serious discussion that goes against anything that the powers that be have conditioned the masses to believe.
Any perceived threats to awaken those masses is met with head on onslaught from the dis-info and mis-info crowd.
When they seem to agree they site absurd alternate info.

Welcome to ATS...

There may be an AGENT on here, there might be 51 of them. Who can tell?

I don't think it's likely to be agents, more likely to be some sort of stooge in my opinion.

You know - the kind of guy in cop dramas who gets intimidated for information, except he's being intimidated into giving false information and proving other people wrong.

I see you are new, and welcome.

Actually this kind of thread is posted at least once a day or more.

If in fact there is a war for the opinions and beliefs of the individual then it would make sense that people with agendas are all over the net.

Just look at CNN or any news channel how they tell a story then have a call in opinion poll and adjust the story to get the people thinking the way they want us to.

It's become part of our society.

If people don't want things known they will go to great lengths to surpress that information, here and everywhere else.

No, no, no. You've got it all wrong. Logic and critical thinking are the ENEMIES of those agendas, not the friends. If someone can *rationally* debunk a claim, most likely they are *not* a disinfo agent. If, on the other hand, an individual is making wild claims with no proof or even hard evidence, the chances, IMO, are high that that individual *is* a disinfo agent, and their goal is to disseminate low-quality "information" here to decrease the usefulness of this site and harm its reputation.

I did not until last week. Now I am convinced there are. I think this is a common question, I don't know if there has ever been a confirmed one or not. I have heard people speak of it though.

I do not believe it in the least.

It is the height of arrogance to think that someone cannot have an honest disagreement with you without being a "disinfo agent" or having some ulterior motive.

And it is just as arrogant to think that our opinions are worthy of the powers-that-be spending time and resources on us.

The label of disinfo-agent is tossed about to help the intellectually lazy insolate themselves from having to defend their position. If you convince yourself someone is a disinfo agent, then you can ignore any argument they make, no matter how valid.

I've seen the label thrown around again and again, but all the evidence amounts to is "that person disagrees with me." The standards for calling someone a disinfo agent are so vague they can be applied to just about anyone.

Says the guy with two warn tabs. So...why do you think we've got so many people making wild claims with no proof or even corroborating evidence?

Well, I believe he learned his lesson. I hope you don't have to go down the same road for you to get the point. Drop the personal posts please.

Good work, intrepid. I'm afraid some other individuals here(who shall remain nameless) forced me into hiding over a silly joke about jello. Who knew?

Well anyway, back on topic: Intrepid, do you think there could be disinfo. agents on here?

There were a few individuals a while back who were making veiled threats to a few posters on many of the "Why Not Just Invade Area51?" and "Infiltrating Area51" threads for simply discussing the topic. It seemed a bit out of the ordinary. Or perhaps they were just angry and don't want anyone in Area51.

Those threats should still be available, would you please quote some of these alleged veiled threats?

I would imagine the government has some type of control or filters here also. Maybe they even run this site. Sorry, that might be disinformation also. Unfortunately, the greatest contributors might also be passing along disinformation planted somewhere else. At least it opens your mind to other possibilities.

It's not like they took your money for lies, like some cult. Imagine if they started making people pay for membership here like many other sites and why they don't. I think I heard the UFO magazine owner say something about 90% of UFO sitings are delusional>

I guess its in the eye of the reader IMHO. The first test that comes to mind is "Project Serpo", If one (who is really good at analyzing the written word, like document experts, who look for forgeries/made up documents (e.g. mormon papers, nazi papers, MJ-12 and famous "proven documents that were fakes 'you can search for famous documents/claims/forgeries on the net., but there were/are some recent crazy ones out there). They could probably spot the dis-info agents. Or even the dis-info agents are good at that themselves and be almost impossible to weed out.

You just got to go with your gut. IMHO

Yes, says the guy with two warn times. A conversation got heated, I admit it. It can happen to any of us.

Like I said earlier, the label is often thrown about so people do not have to defend their positions. You just attempted to use the very same tactic; instead of responding to my argument, you launch a personal attack.

But to answer your question, it has to do with belief. The belief of these individuals is so strong, they are willing to believe anyone or anything. And often, the people making the wild claims, in my experience (and this is completely ancedotal) tend to be younger, teenagers/young adults who have not fully-developed their critical thinking skills.
