Death Rays

Above is a link to an excellent and amusing summary of 1900s to 1930s Death Ray research. I see clear parallels to the touching faith some place in today's supposed black budget military.

Secret weaponry? For sure.
Secret research? Of course.

But as for the reality of what is developed... RADAR was nearly the only workable advance to come from the wave of fantasy that was the Death Ray craze of the interwar period.

DOGHEAD, nice post,

do you think it was more about radar than anything else? in other words do you think that their "death rays" didint work as such ? i have heard of the french guy before, i believed his research is what led us to the crowd control ray we have now.

I really don't know. To look at it in the Charles Fort way- maybe it was "steam engine time" for death rays. Looking under every conceivable rock, they turned up radar, sound weapons, wind weapons and crowd control rays. And presumably Blue Beam.

Strange to see the 1930s through this particular prism though.
